"Mike" Murchison, 64, husband of the late Mary (Dodge) Murchison, died Sept. 26, 1999, at a Bangor hospital. He was born Dec. 7, 1934, in Troy, the son of Clayton and Helen (Urquhart) Murchison. He was a member of the U.S. Trotting Association, Maine Breeder Association and held a trainer-owner license with the Maine State Harness Racing Commission. He is survived by three sons, Michael W. Murchison and his wife, Maureen, Patrick S. Murchison, all of Presque Isle and Stephen Murchison and his wife, Kim of Scarborough; three daughters, Rhonda Cash of Presque Isle, Paula Dyer and her husband, Bruce of Bridgewater, Barbara Farley and her husband, Robert of Lewiston; 11 grandchildren. Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle. He was born March 21, 1954, in Lincoln, the son of Henry and Ruth (Dolan) Murchison. He graduated from Mattanawcook Academy in 1972, and attended EMTC. He was a mechanic with Hughes Brothers of Hampden for many years. Rocky's love was to sail on the Evening Star that he owned with Steve Soucy. He enjoyed working on hot rods with Larry Bowden, enjoyed NASCAR and attending races at Loudon, and hanging out with George Lavoie and the Gang at the Hammond Street Garage. Rocky was a member of the Bangor Elks Club. He is survived by his father, Henry Murchison of Lincoln; three brothers, Jeffrey Murchison and his wife, Julie, of Chester, Henry Murchison of Bangor, Michael Murchison of Lincoln; three sisters and their husbands, Patty and Steve Abbott of Wisconsin, Debbie and Robert Ortiz of Virginia, Kathy and John Barron of Bangor; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother, Ruth (Dolan) Murchison. He was born in Presque Isle, Sept. 28, 1942, the son of Kenneth and Bertha (Bourgoyne) Murchinson. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Presque Isle, where he was active in helping with receptions, Bingo night and being an usher. He was a member of the Bishop Daniel J. Feeney Assembley 4th Degree, Knights of Columbus. He attended Mapleton schools and was a past member of the volunteer fireman in Presque Isle. Mr. Murchinson had been employed by ABC Bakery and Hedrich Vending Inc. He is survived by his wife, Beatrice (Murphy) Murchinson; a brother, Gerald Murchinson and his wife, Linda, all of Presque Isle; two sisters, Phyllis Roix and her husband, Dana, of Bangor; and Ida Koch, a special sister who has been more like a mother to him the last five years and her husband, Ed, of Presque Isle; a sister-in-law, Marjorie Murchinson of Caribou; godchildren, Joshua Koch and JoAnne Corriveau; several nieces and nephews; his two dogs, Daisy and U.J. He will be remembered by a very good friend, Sharon St. Peter of Preseque Isle; and close friends, Karen Winslow and Mary Jo Badger, both of Presque Isle. MURCHISON BANGOR and ZEPHYRHILLS, FLA. Louise T. Murchison, 73, died March 18, 2002, in Zephyrhills, Fla. She was born Feb. 23, 1929, in Durham, the daughter of Lottie and Gustave Tardiff. She graduated from Edward Little High School in Auburn and married Alton G. Murchison. They were married for 53 years. For many years, Louise worked for Eastern Area Agency on Aging, helping the elderly as information and referral specialist. She was active with the Bangor YWCA, serving on their board of directors and helped start the gift shop there. She was a member of the Women's Golf Association and founded the local YABA (Young American Bowling Assoc.) in Bangor. For more than 30 years, she and her husband, Al were members of the Friday Night Mixed Couples Bowling League at Family Fun Lanes. She is survived by her husband, Al; children, Gail Sumner of Bangor, Gary and his wife, Suzi Murchison of Rome, N.Y., Ellen and her husband, Bill Barry of Wells; three wonderful grandsons, Andy Sumner, Billy and Joey Barry. She is also survived by her sisters, Charlotte Walton of Lisbon, Helen Clifford of Everett, Wash., and Margaret Bullard of Tacoma, Wash., many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a baby daughter, Jill; five brothers, Morris, Joe, Charlie, Larry and Lester; and one sister, Lillian. Publish Date: Saturday, October 13, 2001 MURCHISON, Durwood Philbrook, 67 BANGOR - Durwood Philbrook Murchison, 67, died Oct. 12, 2001, at Maine Veterans Home in Bangor after a long and courageous battle with brain cancer. He was born in Lincoln, Nov. 27, 1933, the son of Daniel Duncan and Lillian Amber (Peters) Murchison. Durwood was a graduate of Mattanawcook Academy in Lincoln in 1953. He entered the U.S. Air Force after high school, where he remained for three years. He then joined the Air National Guard in Bangor as a mechanic, where he remained until 1964. He lived and worked in New Britain, Conn., for seven years before returning to Maine, where he settled in the Portland area. Durwood lived in that area until 1998 when he moved to Bangor. Over the years, he worked as a mechanic in several garages and was a supervisor at The Barron Center in Portland when he retired because of illness in 1997. Durwood received several commendations from the City of Portland for excellence in his work at The Barron Center. He was among the first residents in the Freese Assisted Living building in Bangor in 2000, and leaves many friends there. His special job was to sing the Happy Birthday song, which he did with gusto. He knew all of his fellow residents' first names and greeted each individually at the community meals daily.He loved the outdoors, in particular hunting and fishing. During his last few years, a special highlight of his life was his "granddog", Rosie. He enjoyed hearing about her antics, but he especially loved to witness them firsthand. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Bangor. Durwood is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Julie Ann (Murchison) and James G. Harris of Hermon; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Darrell E. and Arlene Murchison of Saco, and Roger W. and Donna Murchison of Meriden, Conn.; two aunts, Leona Murchison of Lincoln and Muriel Spearin of Howland; a special friend, Marlene Layton of Portland; cousins, nieces, a nephew, grandnieces and grandnephews. He was predeceased by a son, John David Murchison in 1970; five brothers, three sisters, and his parents. There will be no visiting hours. James served his country in the Navy during World War II, and went on to raise a family in Chester with his wife, Ardis (Nason) Ireland. James worked 28 years as a woodsman, and he worked for B&A Railroad for several years as well. His children and grandchildren were the joys of his life, especially teaching his grandchildren to fish, and fishing in Eastport. Wright 84, died Nov. 26, 2003, at Caribou. He was born Sept. 18, 1919, in Grand Falls, New Brunswick, the son of Justus and Ruby (Murchison) Wright. At the age of 18 he began his own trucking company, which he ran until 1942. He then spent a year as a locomotive fireman with the C.N.R in Edmundston. In 1943, Mr. Wright began his farming career in Canada. In 1946, he moved to Caribou where he grew and shipped certified seed and table stock potatoes for a number of years. On Nov. 4, 1947, Thomas married Margaret Tardiff. He later moved to Connecticut where he was a construction foreman for eight years. He then became the commercial building job supervisor for the Frank E. Down Construction Co. in New Britain. Retiring in 1980, he and Margaret returned to Caribou. Mr. Wright was a member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church. He is survived by his daughter, Mary Lou Hill of Stafford Springs, Conn.; a daughter-in-law, Gloria Tomlinson of Temple, Texas; a grandson, Robert Tomlinson and his wife, Cathy, of Austin, Texas; one granddaughter, Debra Ann Beach and her husband, Greg, of Moody, Texas; nine grandchildren; two brothers, Justus E, Wright and his wife, Kathleen, of Aroostook, New Brunswick and Robert Wright and his wife, June, of Fort Fairfield; four sisters, Leona Marshman of Ontario, Elva Targon and her husband, Tony, and Adeline Fruitt and her husband, Leon, all of Spring Hill, Fla., and Carolyn Goodine and her husband, Haley, of Perth Andover, N.B.; many nieces and nephews.
