Publish Date: Saturday, October 13, 2001 MURCHISON, Durwood Philbrook, 67 BANGOR - Durwood Philbrook Murchison, 67, died Oct. 12, 2001, at MaineVeterans Home in Bangor after a long and courageous battle with braincancer. He was born in Lincoln, Nov. 27, 1933, the son of Daniel Duncan andLillian Amber (Peters) Murchison. Durwood was a graduate of MattanawcookAcademy in Lincoln in 1953. He entered the U.S. Air Force after high school,where he remained for three years. He then joined the Air National Guard inBangor as a mechanic, where he remained until 1964. He lived and worked inNew Britain, Conn., for seven years before returning to Maine, where hesettled in the Portland area. Durwood lived in that area until 1998 when hemoved to Bangor. Over the years, he worked as a mechanic in several garagesand was a supervisor at The Barron Center in Portland when he retiredbecause of illness in 1997. Durwood received several commendations from theCity of Portland for excellence in his work at The Barron Center. He wasamong the first residents in the Freese Assisted Living building in Bangorin 2000, and leaves many friends there. His special job was to sing theHappy Birthday song, which he did with gusto. He knew all of his fellowresidents' first names and greeted each individually at the community mealsdaily.He loved the outdoors, in particular hunting and fishing. During hislast few years, a special highlight of his life was his "granddog", Rosie.He enjoyed hearing about her antics, but he especially loved to witness themfirsthand. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter DaySaints in Bangor. Durwood is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, JulieAnn (Murchison) and James G. Harris of Hermon; two brothers andsisters-in-law, Darrell E. and Arlene Murchison of Saco, and Roger W. andDonna Murchison of Meriden, Conn.; two aunts, Leona Murchison of Lincoln andMuriel Spearin of Howland; a special friend, Marlene Layton of Portland;cousins, nieces, a nephew, grandnieces and grandnephews. Wright 84, died Nov. 26, 2003, at Caribou. He was bornSept. 18, 1919, in Grand Falls, New Brunswick, the son of Justus and Ruby(Murchison) Wright. At the age of 18 he began his own trucking company,which he ran until 1942. He then spent a year as a locomotive fireman withthe C.N.R in Edmundston. In 1943, Mr. Wright began his farming career inCanada. In 1946, he moved to Caribou where he grew and shipped certifiedseed and table stock potatoes for a number of years. On Nov. 4, 1947, Thomasmarried Margaret Tardiff. He later moved to Connecticut where he was aconstruction foreman for eight years. He then became the commercial buildingjob supervisor for the Frank E. Down Construction Co. in New Britain.Retiring in 1980, he and Margaret returned to Caribou. Mr. Wright was amember of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church.
