Seafrance has ordered the Fin 'Aker Yards' shipyard to built a new carferry for the Dover-Calais line. Cost: £60 million.
The new ship, named SeaFrance Rodin
, is the largest ever on this route.
She measure 185 m lenght, 28 m wide and a weight of 32000 ton.
The ship can convey 1900 passengers in the most comfortable conditions, as well as 120 lorries or 700 cars
on 2000 lanemeters.
With it's 25 knots service speed this ship is the fastest on this route, and the crossingtime is reduced to less than 1 hour.
Delivery of the new pride of Seafrance was sheduled for
september 2001. Teh first commercial sail was on .. december 2001.
Seafrance has also taken an option to build a sistership. |
