With the idea of hopefully getting to use my homemade portaledge for the very first time ( story here), I took 105 lbs of gear up to a crag at Skibowl close to Government Camp, Mt Hood.
Had to make 2 trips of 2 miles each way. By the time I lugged all this stuff up there and setup a solo anchor it was getting late. I got just a few placements up when discovered that I didn't have large enough (or plentiful enough) gear with me and I decided that climbing was hard and stupid so I bailed.
Took only 1 trip hiking back down to the car. But even after dumping all my water and disposing of some of my food and beer, I still had about 100 lbs of shit that I had to pack out.
Feeling as though my arms were going to burst I eventually arrived back at the van totally exhausted. Pretty lame; maybe next time.
