1992 Dodge Grand Caravan

This was an experiment after the death of my 1980 VW Westfalia. I didn't know what I wanted as a trail head car, so tried this. This van is utterly devoid of a soul. You turn it on, it just ran, not a lot of fuss or muss. But it DID have about the most hiddeous red crush interior... I felt like a pimp in this thing!

At one point I built several cabinets to try and mimic a Westfalia's interior. It wasn't a terrible solution, but it was a headache moving stuff in and out all the time. For safety and to prevent the boxes from shifting, I had run bolts connecting the individual boxes into one unit (bolts with fender washers and wing nuts... drilled holes in common points all over the place).
Utimately, it just wasn't the same as the VW. Luckily I found a nice house painter who took it off my hands for a nice little profit!

The experiment in turning this into an RV was sort of interesting though. See the following pictures of how the boxes laid out. I would sleep on top of the boxes after throwing down a sleeping pad and a bag. Worked ok just so long as you didn't need to get up quickly (I tended to smack my head on the ceiling).

(A) pull out table where I'd put a coleman stove
(B) pantry cupboard with a "roll top" style door (hand made by me... thank you very much!)
(C) small pots and pans cabinet with a flip up/stow away door... made a nice beer holder while I cooked
(D) back side of the stand up closet
(E) where I would sleep
(F) "kitchen" storage

(A) closet.... I very much stole this design from the westfalia
(B) one of the bix storage boxes. Not the side access door; very useful when something was on top of the box lid.

Similar picture as above only with the doors open.
