Last night... sniff

Kevin and I decided that this was our last night on the Trail.  sniff.  I've been in denial about leaving, but we have a flight out on the 22nd and debated about hiking right up to that point.  However, there's an inn at the junction of the AT and Long Trail with an Irish pub inside.  Is there a more perfect stopping point?  :)

I'm sad to be leaving and would love to have several more months off.  However, I don't want to finish it without Kevin and somebody has to pay the bills, I suppose.  So, tomorrow is our last hiking day, sadly enough.

Today's hiking went well.  Energy and spirits were high, making for a fast day.  The first 4 miles flew by in an hour and a half and then we went on to a lookout cabin for lunch.  The cabin is on private property, but the owners let hikers stay there when there aren't guests.  Tres cool.  The view from the lookout platform built on the roof was beautiful.  Although the hiking is easy with gentle ups and downs, I do miss the views.

After a long lunch break, we cruised on to the shelter.  It's been a good last full day.  At camp, we chilled with a couple of cool NOBOs and 2 SOBOs that are quitting the Trail.  That's sad, but they're not having a good time... in fact, one of them told a NOBO that he thinks that anybody who says they have a good time on the Trail is lying.  Silly person.  It's always a challenge, but it's all about attitude.  I suppose, though, it's not bright to be miserable on a voluntary endeavor - they're probably making the right move.

We have 8 miles tomorrow and then a black & tan is waiting for me at the bar.  Sweet.
