BMPS (as in 'bumps')

In desperation of searching for an apt title that sums up the day, I oh-so-originally went with the initials of our hiking crew - Bobo, Medicine Man, Plumber and Sunshine.  The huts don't usually accept work-for-stay'ers before 4 pm, so, with only 7 miles to go, we didn't want to leave
too early.  We finished up our chores and were on the Trail by 11.

The hiking was nice and easy, at a relaxed pace.  It was cloudy for most of the day, but it cleared up for a few minutes here and there to give us a great view of the valley.  After a short descent, we were at the hut at 4:30.  Only 5 1/2 hours of hiking.  I love these half days!

When we arrived at Galehead Hut, we were "attacked" by a NOBO wanting to talk terrain and hostels ("hey man!").  I've gotten to the point where I don't really care that much about either.  I walk south whether it's straight up, straight down or flat and I figure out where to stay in town when we get there.  I sometimes get annoyed with people saying, "You have to stay at so-and-so."  The recommendation is noted, but I stay where I want to.... and a lot of times these places are weeks ahead.  I haven't gotten close enough to that town to care yet.  I'm also now numb to NOBO's saying anything is difficult.  Whatever (in my best valley-girl impression).  I've hiked through southern Maine... I think I can now hike anything the AT dishes out.

The company of Medicine Man and Sunshine was wonderful.  I was laughing to the point of crying sometimes - making it a treacherous walk down the mountain (envision slick rocks, steep descent and rocking your body with laughter)  :)  We also enjoy the same, relaxed pace, rather than the scurrying (in my perception) of the Texas Trio.

There are actually bunks available at this hut - woo-hoo!  So, it's off to sleep on a real mattress for me.  Sweet.

(I couldn't think of a good sign-off, either.  My creativity dropped off a cliff somewhere.)
