| DEET-less Day (our first day of not wearing DEET!) For the second night in a row, I'm writing in the dark with a flashlight. This isn't cool. It's way past my bedtime... again. We slept in this morning (6:30), which probably wasn't a good idea. Today was long. It was a constant up and down, Maine style... meaning that the inclination was anywhere from 50 - 70 degrees. Sometimes, I want to get a good old protractor out and actually measure it; however, that would prove Kevin's point that I'm a dork. Of course, even mentioning a protractor probably proves his point. So, onto the day description... Like I was saying, up, down, up down, up , down (I'm going to start singing Pooh's exercise song in a second here). We were hoping to catch up with Wonderboy, Tangent and Semi-Sweet (the TX Trio), but they're still ahead of us. We hiked for about 11 hours... I think I hit a brick wall after 10 and that last bit just DRAGGED on and on. We did catch one good view today of the valley formed by Sugarloaf (an ugly ski resort), Saddleback and the Bigelows. I've heard the views from Saddleback are outstanding, so hopefully the rain and clouds stay at bay long enough for us to get a beautiful hike tomorrow. The maintainer of this lean-to leaves the answers to the previous year's questions in the register... it made for an amusing evening. If you ever wondered why a moose's poop is in perfectly symmetrical round pellets, I now know. It's so that you can tell it's moose poop. Really. That was the answer. - Smiling Sleepy Bobo |
