The Graphics Carrier Assembly has the ability to drive up to 3 graphics panels, one Central Display Unit (CDU) and two Multi-Function Displays (MFD). Graphical interfaces include 6-bit digital RGB (DVI/LVDS) or composite/S-video by using the S1D13505 Epson Graphics controller and the Quantum3D Sentiris PCI Mezzanine Card. Interface capabilities include 12 ARINC-429 receivers, 8 ARINC-429 transmitters, 3 differential A/D inputs and 1 RGB or composite/S-video input. The 5.0? x 8.25? 3MCU printed circuit board consisted of 16 layers and utilized surface mount double sided reflow technology. Design, layout, and routing was performed using P-Cad 2004 and the SPECCTRA Autorouter. Development for the Xilinx XC3S100 Spartan 3 was performed using Aldec VHDL and Verilog simulation tools and Xilinx ISE toolset for routing and synthesis. The module was redesigned to use SMT only circuitry and developed to increase manufacturing yeilds and lower overall BOM costs. The new 4-channel device BOM cost is 15% cheaper than the current single channel device and 30% below target BOM cost. Circuitry of the Quad device includes Altera Cyclone FPGA with embedded NIOS processor, Altera EPM3128 CPLD, Duel E1/T1 LIUs, Ethernet Physical devices, VCOs, VCXOs, PLLs, Flash, SRAM, Async SRAM, DRAM, and 3.3V/3A switching and 1.5V/1A linear power supplies.
