Þ      Director, WorldWide IT Infrastructure

 

Managed the technical  buildout of a second building on our campus property (cabling logistics, circuit procurement, wiring closet architecture, etc).   Oversaw the occupancy of our new (building 1) campus in late 2000.  Performed contract negotiations with various vendors (Cisco, Sun, IBM and NetApp contracts, including service and service level agreements).  Established co-terminus agreements wherever possible.  Negotiated system monitoring and after-hours help desk support with an outside NOC provider (SiteRock in Emeryville, CA).  Reorganized an ineffective operations team run primarily by an outside consulting firm to a very effective, highly motivated organization consisting of four primary disciplines:  NT, Unix, Network/Security and Remote Field Office Support.  Developed and received approval of a modest $12 million budget for fiscal year 2001.  As of Q1, 2001, this budget was right on target.   During a period of cost cutting and no spending against budget, was able to formulate and execute on a Windows 2K backend deployment in preparation for rollout of Windows Exchange 2000.  Via effective use of existing equipment, was able to perform a “no-cost” server consolidation, allowing us to effectively gain more servers without spending.  Formed the basis for a business continuity plan which is temporarily on hold due to budget reasons.   Worked out the primary IT logistics for Metricom’s March 2001 RIF.

Restructured a failing technology/engineering organization in three months with a remaining fiscal budget of less than $500,000 and personnel over-expenditures of $400K.  Utilizing the existing management team, and consolidating where appropriate, I stabilized, then rebuilt the diminishing customer base.  My long term strategizing and planning has set a recovery course for Sega.com PC Networks through the end of 2000.  Established an IS organization for support of corporate infrastructure (desktop services, telecom).  Established business relationships and long term contracts with telecom and ISP providers (Sprint, QWEST, MCI, Internap are the top four).  Provided logistics in nationwide ISP rollout and coverage.  Established a 24x7 operations department.  Proposed a scaled down, but significant fiscal 2000 budget of $12,000,000.  Provided logistics and guidance in the merger of Segasoft Networks and Sega.com.  Managed an organization of over 54 individuals with five direct report managers and directors.

Managed a team of contractors and developers in the customization and implementation of the complete Clarify package suite (ClearSales, ClearSupport, ClearLogistics, etc).  Managed requirements gathering and process improvement of interdepartmental operations (Marketing, Sales, Direct Sales, Customer support).  Integrated lead qualification data supplied by outside vendor into the Clarify SFA module.  Managed $250K budget, six-month expansion of Clarify to various departments within Polycom (came in under budget at $230K, and delivered on target).  Architected key interface between Clarify Sales and PeopleSoft Order Entry system for smooth integration of two disparate systems (one on SQL*Server, the other on Oracle).

Þ      Director of Data Management

 

Responsible for four developers and one Oracle DBA.  My team was responsible for the tracking and analysis of web statistics used for revenue forecasting by the Marketing and Sales departments.  Additionally, three other areas of discipline were also my responsibility:  E-Commerce (internet based retail), Sales Force Automation (customer/contact relationships) and Web Ad-Inventory (an inventory system for tracking available ad-impression availability).  As manager, I defined the requirements for converting the existing databases into a Data Warehouse allowing the various departments within the company to mine the data and design custom reports on their own (using such tools as Discoverer, Crystal Reports, etc).  I also worked towards converting some existing systems on disparate databases to a standard Oracle platform and headed an effort to develop a corporate disaster recovery process to minimize the amount of system downtime in the event of a catastrophic failure or incident.

Þ      Project Manager

 

Developed and managed a vital business product called Rascal; a GUI application used by Engineering, Order Administration and Customer Support to configure, audit and update remote voice platform systems in the field.  This required the coordination of various departmental disciplines and involved a tremendous amount of effort to integrate them as a coherent team.  Rascal was written in C using VIM, OCI, Netware and proprietary API’s.  Implemented a “7 by 24” operation with emergency redundancy and backup procedures.  Managed skillsets that each individual department offered in order to meet requirements within budget and within the allocated timeframe as well as improve customer support and data visibility.

 

 

 

Þ      Senior Design Engineer

 

Performed feasibility analysis, coding requirements and project planning towards the development of a telephony simulation package in MSVC C++ 4.2 and Java 1.0.2 to provide true run-time simulation of telephony-based software applications on a Win95 platform.  Responsible for re-architecting many of the Octel OPAL-specific legacy code in OO using Java and MSVC C++.  Performed design analysis and development of a phrase resource manager database component (MSVC C++ 5.0) for use in Octel’s next generation development software.

 

 

 

Þ      Senior Programmer/Analyst

 

·         As team lead, developed and implemented interfaces in C and PL/SQL to link Oracle Financials to Customer Support System (Orbit), providing synchronous transfer of data between two Oracle databases.  Architected conversion scripts and programs used to migrate legacy data from HP3000 and Vax to Oracle Financials and Orbit databases.  This included automated cleansing of the data and robust exception report handling.  Acted as primary coordinator between I.S. and the customer service organization.

·         Developed and implemented Octel’s corporate employee database which forms the core for many other client/server applications and acts as backbone for the financial and customer support systems.  This application was written in C and Neuron Data.

·         Elected as sole representative of the Business Systems Department for the Disaster Recovery project.  This role required that a plan be drafted to account for any type of disaster, major or minor, which would have an impact on any of Octel’s core business systems and applications.  I was selected because of my broad knowledge of the client/server applications, inter-dependence upon the core systems and understanding of the customer’s needs.

·         Developed, implemented, managed and supported various other major corporate-wide client/server applications including a visual GUI based conference room scheduling application, Text Paging, Report Generation, User Licensing, and Bookings and Revenue.  All applications were written in MSVC and Neuron Data.
