Most people never get the once in a lifetime opportunity to meet their favorite celebrity... well I am one of the lucky few who have. My chance came during a trip to Pittsburgh for back to back Black & Blue shows in February 2001 when fate and luck intervened and I got to meet Kevin Richardson!!!!!
We attended the show Thursday and afterwards we met up with friends of mine, who happened to know what hotel the Boys were in (a big thanks to Dawn & Dawn!!!) Anyway.... early Friday we headed down to the hotel in hopes of seeing one or more of the Boys! We actually did see Brian leave to go golfing but that was it and it was just after we arrived. Otherwise, we just socialized with our fellow BSB fans and watched their bodyguards come & go alot! Geez, after many hours... we opted to give up and head back to our hotel. One of the girls had to pick up her niece at the airport, but suggested that we go back around 4:30 and we might catch them leaving for the venue!!! (Thanks, Di!!!) So 4:30 rolls around and off we go again to the hotel. I see Dawn out front just as we get there... she starts "OMG, you just missed Nick Carter!!!!" Well, we figured our BSB meeting had just pulled away :-( We headed around to the service entrance of the hotel, anyway and waited! Within a few minutes another tour bus pulled around and of course all the teenies ran towards the bus! LOL All of a sudden there comes a man's voice from behind us "Now listen, you are gonna get in a single file line along the building!! You will not scream & you will not touch him! If you don't listen to me & follow these directions, I will stop the autograph signing!!!" I looked at my friends and was like "Holy sh*t, that's Carlos... he is Kev's bodyguard!!!!" Next thing we know... the hotel door opens and out steps Kevin!!! Lord that man is beautiful in person!!!!
The next part is sort of a blur... everyone was pushing to try to get in line to ensure they got to meet Kev! (Boy can some women get bitchy when it comes to the Boys!!!) At first I wasn't sure I was going to get the chance so I shoved my liner notes at my friend Peg (I owe you big time babe!!!!!) since she was in front of me. As it turns out, I did get to meet Kev and even did a good deed. Another fan knew she wasn't going to get close enough and asked me to get her an autograph, which I gladly did! So by this time I am standing directly in front of my object of total lust and I am completely speechless. I got his autograph, managed to say Hi and shake his hand. I am not sure if I was that awestruck or just scared to say too much and sound stupid! I can tell you this... yes, his eyes really are THAT green, and that voice... so soft, so deep and with a slight Kentucy drawal! Of course, my encounter would not be complete without me doing some stupid... I went to take the picture and apparently had the autograph in front of the camera (duh?!?!?). Kevin was like "Woah, the paper is in front of your camera and you aren't going to get the picture!!!" Lord, did I feel stupid at that very moment. So I quickly took his picture and moved out of the way!
Even to this day... some 2 months later it still seems surreal, but I have proof it happened by my pics and autographed Black & Blue liner notes. Just remember, meeting the Boys can and does happen, you just have to be patient and be in the right places!!!! |
