Jez Rictheron exemplified that reputation. There are recorded occassions where he defeated a Thunderbolt in combat by using his Griffins PPC to drop a hillside on it. Another encounter had him charge a Victor, bowling it over, and crushing its reactor with the battle fist from his mech. His talent and generous use of his PPC earned him the nickname 'Thor' from his Lyran supporters who likewise named his blue and yellow Griffin the 'Thundergod'. Over the years Rictheron himself was forgotten as more impressive matches took place, but few who witnessed it would forget the sparking Griffin. Until 3025 it had remained a stock model, though that hardly suited the style or needs of its pilot. When he had amassed enough money he completely rebuilt his mech turning it into a frightning monster in combat. Jez used the Griffin for his remaining year at Solaris 7 and into his career as a mercenary, including two seperate campaigns in the 4th Succession War. Thundergod was retired in 3036 and currently stands in the entry hall for the Sons of the Dragon R&D alongside its Solaris brothers. Capabilities The late model Thundergod remains identical to the stock model in the area of mobility and armor. The only major changes involved are in the area of its weaponry. Both the PPC and the LRM10 were stripped out, being useless at close ranges. Instead a single long barreled Large Laser was built into the left shoulder providing the limit of the long range firepower. A trio of medium lasers were added next to improve the damage curve, two forward facing and a single pointed into the rear. The most unique feature of the 'Thundergod' was its melee weapon. During his time with the Kell Hounds, Rictheron had overheard Patrick Kell and Cat Wilson discussing between themselves the rumors of a new mech being produced capable of wielding a massive battleaxe. The idea so intrigued Jez that he spent 2 years on Solaris gathering spent AC rounds which he was finally able to have forged into such an axe in 3025. In keeping with his title he even had it forged into the shape of an ancient norse war hammer. |
