Daguerreo

Once that small White Mage, Atver, summoned his ‘pet’ dragon, we were on our way to Daguerreo to see what Christopher’s cousin, Darth, had found there. To me, I didn’t really care. I just didn’t want to be left alone in the house. Not like before when I lived at ‘Vetrix’ island…I always wanted to be left alone back then when I lived there. The thing is…I wasn’t a moogle back then. I was a wolf. I didn’t even live on the planet Gaia back then. Stupid Dezent…

“Ricky?” Atver said with concern. I looked up at him. The kid reached over to me and scratched the back of my right ear. “Are you alright? You look as if you were thinking about something.”

“Huh?” Was all I said. I shook my head slightly and just smiled. “I’m alright, Atver. Kupo…My thoughts were just drifting to the past when I didn’t meet you or Trevor yet…”

“Okay,” he said as he went back to holding onto one of his dragon’s horns. Trevornous, Atver, and I were on the enormous creature’s head, believe it or not.

Christopher looked around. He was standing on the dragon’s shoulder. If I didn’t know any better, I would say that the Burmecian was fascinated of what he saw.

“This dragon’s magnificent!” He exclaimed. “Atver! You never told me that your dragon was bigger than an airship! Amazing!”

Trevornous sat down hastily next to Atver. He looked as if he were going to vomit.

“This thing was smaller the last time I saw it,” he replied to Christopher. “It seems to be faster as well…”

Atver looked down at his Black Mage brother. “We’re almost there. Don’t throw up. Haha.”

“Yeah…Like I would actually do that. Ha,” Trevornous said as he got and dusted himself off.

I sat down on the head of the dragon and looked forward. An island slowly appeared in sight. I jumped up slightly and let out a small sound. I looked down at Christopher.

“It that the island?” I asked.

The dragoon nodded slightly to me. “Yes. Daguerreo’s on that isle.”

“Alright! Slow down, Cyrusfen!” Atver called out to his dragon.

Cyrusfen slowed down his speed, flapped his wings harder, gradually stopped flapping, and then landed on the island. Christopher leaped off its shoulder. The dragon lowered his head and both Atver and Trevornous hopped off his head. I flew off and sat on Christopher’s shoulder.

“Well, lets go,” he said. “I want to see what Darth found already.”

“This better be good,” Trevornous said as he wobbled slightly. “I feel really sick.”

“Quit complaining,” I said as I rolled my eyes. “I haven’t been here before, kupo. I’d like to see the inside of the place already!”

Atver told Cyrusfen to go home and decided to lead the way into Daguerreo. Trevornous then followed him. Christopher was last to follow. I remained on his shoulder until we entered Daguerreo.

I flew off his shoulder and looked around. The whole place was just one big library. I laughed slightly. There was water and small boat on the side. Why would anyone put books in such a wet place like this?

“Chris!” Darth said as he leaped off the second floor. He landed in front of us and smiled. “Hey, cousin!”

Darth was younger than Christopher. He was a teenager. I think he was around the age of eighteen. Christopher was twenty-six.

“Hey, Darth,” Christopher said with a smirk. “May I see the book you found?”

“Oh, yeah! Sure! Just wait a second, please,” Darth said as he leaped up onto the floor he had been on.

Christopher cracked a grin. I just raised a brow at him.

“Kupo, what’s with the grin?” I asked him.

“Hahaha…Nothing. I just find Darth’s personality pretty funny for a Burmecian at his age,” he replied to me.

Darth leaped back down in front of Christopher and handed him a book with the Swiftbreeze symbol on it. It appeared to be some kind of star-like shape. I wasn’t so sure. I flew over to them to take a closer look. I was wrong. The shape of the seal was not of a star at all. It was a more complex shape.

“Hmm…Where in this library did you find this book, Darth?” Christopher said as he opened it and flipped through the pages carefully. “It appears to be a spell book.”

“I found it at the back. It looks pretty old.”

“Yeah, it does,” Christopher said as he flipped to another page. He began to chant the words on the page out loud while waving his left hand.

Slowly, I noticed that his left hand was forming some kind of blue aura. Before I knew what was going on, I was hit with a spell Christopher had cast and I was floating higher into the air. I struggled to stay where I was, but I couldn’t and slowly when up to the ceiling of the whole library.

Darth let out a laugh when saw me slowly float higher and higher. He leaped up and got a hold of my foot and pulled me down. He kept his hand on my foot due to the fact that I was still floating. I felt ridiculous. Christopher lowered the book and looked at me. He seemed pleased for some reason.

“Ahh…I was right. Floating spell,” he said as he flipped the page and began to chant the words on that page.

He casts another spell on me. I feel myself become heavier and then returning to my original weight. I hang there a Darth held me by my foot. I shake my head and then flap my wings slightly. Darth lets go of my and I fly over to Atver and sat down on his shoulder.

Trevornous chuckled slightly. “May I try out a spell from that book, Chris?”

Christopher shook his head. “Sorry, Trevornous. You can’t read Burmecian properly from what I have seen. You might make a mistake and hurt someone.”

Darth took the book from Christopher and grinned. “Mind if I try, cousin?”

Christopher rolled his eyes. “Knock yourself out…”

I hide behind Atver. I do not want to be a target again from the two Burmecians.

Darth flips through the pages until he found one he seemingly liked. He had this curious look on his face. He began to head out of Daguerreo. He turned to look at us.

“Come on,” he said. “I do not want to cast this spell in here. Too many people in here.”

“Alright,” Christopher replied. “What is the spell, Darth?”

“I’ll show you all outside.”

Christopher and Trevornous followed him outside. I sat back down on Atver’s shoulder and followed behind them.

I wonder what the spell is. What’s the big deal?

Darth stopped outside of the library. He read the page of the spell book to himself then set the book on the ground. He rose his arms high and began to chant the spell. A dark blue portal surrounded by black smoke appeared in front of him.

I hopped off the small White Mage’s shoulder and flew over to Darth to get a closer look at the spell. Darth lowered his arms and looked at the portal. He let out a small laugh of disbelief.

“Well, the spell worked,” he said. “Shall we see where it takes us?”

Christopher stepped closer and examined the portal. “What location were you thinking about when you were casting that spell?”

“I heard about this Black Mage village from Freya,” Darth turned to face his cousin and smirked. “I always wanted to see Black Mages up close without them trying to burn me.”

Trevornous let out a laugh mockingly. “Haha…Those model one, two, and three Black Mages sure did want you dead. ‘KILL! KILL!’ Haha. I’m guessing that they thought you were pretty annoying.”

“Yeah, same goes for you,” Darth said as he rolled his eyes. “A whole army of them was trying to kill you and Atver. You’re lucky that your mother was there or you two kids would have been killed. Too bad she was killed in the process.”

Those words hit Trevornous hard. He was thunderstruck. He just stood there and said nothing. When I turned to look at him, I saw tears forming under his glowing, yellow eyes. Atver started to cry as well. Both of them loved their mother dearly. I turned to Darth and glared. I flew over to him and began to yell.

“Kupo! Who do you think you are, Darth?! Trevornous is not a bad kid, kupo! How could you say something like that?! Kupo! You even made poor little Atver cry! Kupo!”

Darth said nothing more. He looked over at his Christopher to get some back up, but he was sneering at him. Darth turned away from us all and looked at the ground.

Atver wiped his tears with his sleeve and shook his head. He walked towards the portal and walked through it and disappeared from sight. Before I could stop him, Trevornous had run into the portal after his younger brother. Christopher picked up his family spell book and went after them. I looked at Darth again. He said nothing and just stood there.

“I hope you’re happy, kupo,” I said. “I’m going after them. Kupo. You may come if you want since you cast the spell. Kupo.”

“…Yeah. I’m coming…sorry,” he said as he headed into the portal slowly.

“Don’t say sorry to me. Kupo. Say sorry to Trevornous and Atver,” I said as I flew into the portal behind him.
