Trans’ Reason

While Trans checked all the supplies he was going to bring, I looked around his hideout with interest on some paintings hanging on the walls of one room. “Travallian, you asked me when and how I became a vampire, right?” he asks as he puts the stuff into a sack.

“Yes,” I replied as I walked through the door of the room he was in.

“Well,” he held the sack over his shoulder and slowly looked up at me, “It happened when I was 10 years old,” he starts as he gets up, “It was on the year of when your mother went missing when she was out searching for you. She and your father were searching mostly everyday for you, for two years, to be exact. On the second year, your mother went missing for twelve days and never returned to our village. Your father then found her, lay dead on a field. I was with him at the time. I saw in his eyes that he was furious as he saw the wounds on his love’s arms, legs, and tattered cloak were made by a dagger and a chain whip. As I looked at the wounds, I could not tell if those weapons made those wounds, yet, since I was young and didn’t know anything about weapons, all I could do was agree on what he had identified. Your mother had a look on her face that looked so depressing, that I had tried very hard to think of what had happened to her.” Trans stopped for a moment to look at me. I kept silent. My face felt as if it was burning, I slowly looked at the ground, I tried to hide it, but I knew that Trans could see that I was starting to weep. Mother, I never even had the chance to see you again, I wish that I even knew you like I did before, I thought to myself as tears, that felt like sharp ice shards, ran down my cheeks. I wiped the tears with the sleeve of my cloak roughly. Trans laid a hand on my shoulder, “Sorry, Travallian. I shouldn’t have told that part.”

“No, it is okay.” I said as calmly as I could, “Thank you for telling me that,” I give him a slight smirk, “Please continue.”

Trans gives me a slight nod and starts to talk again, “Your father was filled with so much anger, hatred, and sadness. Right at that moment, he told me with a bitter voice ‘I shall search for my son without any help now. Tell no one about this, Reggie!’ I didn’t even have a chance to respond to him. When I tried to say something, I was too slow to do so and he had already vanished in thin air. Later on, when I was back at the village, I went to my home and saw that no one was there. My parents had left when I was gone,” He lets out a small sigh, “They seemed to always do that,” his face was blank and had no emotion as he said those words, “Your parents cared for me a lot better than my own.”

“Hmm… If only I could remember them,” I responded.

“Well, you will remember again, someday, maybe… Since my parents were gone at the time, I checked my sister’s room just in case they didn’t take her with them. When I went to her room, she wasn’t there, but there was a note on her bed. The note read:

‘Brother, I left with mom and dad to search for Trav in the forest. We will not be back until nightfall. If you feel like it, could you come to the forest and help us out?

 Love from,

Your little sister, Zeo.’

I smiled as I read it. I decided to go to the forest to check on my parents and Zeo. There was a problem, though. When I got there, there were group of vampires, our age, ganging up on Zeo. I searched around and didn’t see my parents anywhere. I had a hunch that they just ran away. I ran right in front of my little sister and, without thinking, said ‘Don’t take a step closer!’ They just stared at me then; finally, one of them snarled at me ‘Like we would listen to you,’ he started to walk toward Zeo and I. I quickly step forward and grab him by the neck and pin him to the ground. He gives me a shocked look. I start to push him harder into the ground. His two friends finally get a hold of me. The vampire that I had pinned to the ground gets up and glares at me. I snarl at him and push the other two away. ‘Pretty strong for just a mortal.’ He says while turning his head to the other vampires that were kneeling behind me. ‘You fools! Go over there and get this punk’s sister!’ He commands. I turn quickly to them, but I was to late, they were already holding on to Zeo. ‘Got her now, Flarth! What do you want us to do with her?’ They said,”

“Flarth?” I asked.

“Yeah, Flarth. He was the original leader of this small group of vampires,”

“Hmm… Let me guess. You gave yourself up and one of his ‘underlings’ bit you and you became a vampire to save your sister, Zeo. Am I right?”

“Yes. Indeed you are.” He lets out a small sigh.

“That explains that part.” I looked around the hideout, painting at one side of the wall, and burning torches and doors at the other. “How did you become the leader of this place?”

“Well, that sorta just happened all of eh sudden.” He frowns. “I can’t answer that one.”

I smile while shaking my head. I get up then quickly turn around. I get slightly startled because someone was right there, staring at me. It appeared to be a teenage Vampire Koopa boy, about my age, or maybe the same age, dark red hair, and wearing a dark brown cloak. He stares at me as if he wanted me out right away.

“Er…H-h-hello,” I said nervously.

“Humph. Yo,” He says with a snort. He turns to Trans. “Who’s this? He a new minion or something? He doesn’t seem vampiric.”

I was in my normal form at the time. I guess he wasn’t around when I came in and also when I transformed back to my Paratroopa state.

“Flarth! Where have ya been?” says Trans slowly, “This is an old friend o’ mine. His name is Keshi,” He turns to me, “Travallian, this is Flarth.”

“Heh. So this is Flarth. Interesting,” I replied.

“This is the Keshi that I have heard so much about? Hmph. Interesting indeed,” Flarth replies as well. He pats me on the shoulder and whispers to me. “It’s good to see you again, brother.”

“Pardon?” I didn’t understand what he said very well.

“Eheheheh… I guess that I’ll have to explain more later when we get back to the village where Fliter is in,” He goes behind Flarth and I and starts pushing us in one direction. He didn’t hear what Flarth said, “Lets get Zeo and be on our way back!”

“Geez. Okay then, Trans,” Flarth and I both say.

Trans starts pushing us harder. As if on cue, Flarth and I trip on the same rock, at the same time and fall over.

“Er, oops. Sorry, guys,” Trans laughs.

At the same time, Flarth and I snarl at Trans then we both look at each other and start to laugh. Trans stares at us both as if we were crazy.

Flarth and I seem to be getting along just fine already, I thought. …but why did he say ‘brother’?
