The
Family Magic Jewels
“What are we doing here?”
Flarth asked crudely. “I was outside, playing with my friends.”
“Father told us to come
here,” I replied.
It was nighttime. There were
torches burning all around the room.
All four of us were there
inside the throne room. Silest, Zenith, Flarth, and I. I stood in front of the
throne and looked up at the ceiling. Once I took another step, Zen had ran past
me and pushed me negligently to the side. I fell to my side with a small sound
of my shell hitting the cold marble floor. The red carpet I had bean standing
on moved with me and both Silest and Flarth, who had been standing behind me,
tripped. All three of us struggled to get up. We were tangled inside the long
carpet. Once I finally freed myself, I saw Zen sitting on our father’s throne,
grinning mischievously.
“Wow. All that happened
because of a small push,” he laughed.
I glared up at him. Silest
and Flarth squirmed out from the twisted up carpet and glared at Zen as well.
Father walked into the
throne room with a small, silver chest in his hands. He looked down at the
carpet then at us. He shook his head and smiled warmly.
“Zenith, careful. I might
decide to leave you out on this if you keep up your mischief,” he said naively.
Zen jumped off the throne
and peered at the silver chest father had in his hands.
“What’s in there, I say?” He
asked rapidly.
Our father raised a brow and
opened the chest slowly in front of Zen. “Well, take a look.”
As he took a glimpse at the
items in the chest, his eyes started to glitter. I dusted myself off then
walked to them and tried my best to look past Zen. No good. I was too small. I
stepped in my brother’s cape and moved my foot back swiftly. Zen tripped and
hits the floor, face first.
My father glances over at me
and rolled his eyes. He handed me the chest and I looked down at it. My eyes
began to twinkle just as much as Zen’s eyes glittered. There were four jewels
in the chest. Not just any ordinary jewel you would find decorating the walls
of the castle. These were magic jewels. An emerald. A sapphire. A ruby. A
diamond.
I gaze at them all with my
mouth gradually opening. I shut my mouth hurriedly. If I had just let my jaw
hang there, my drool would have streamed out of my mouth. I swallowed quietly
then let out a small laugh of embarrassment.
“Father, are these magic
jewels for us?” I asked, trying to say it as polite as I could.
He smiled at me kindly.
“Yes, Travallian. They are.”
I smiled back and handed the
chest back to him. Flarth and Silest walked over to the three of us then peered
down at the chest. Our father took the diamond out of the chest and gave it to
Silest. She smiled cheerfully as she took the diamond.
“Silest, that diamond
possesses strong white magic and the power to manipulate someone’s memory,” he
said firmly. “Take good care of it. Mega Flare shall be teaching you techniques
on using memory spells with it.”
“Okay.”
He turned to look at Zen who
had finally gotten up. I snickered. Father took the ruby out of the silver
chest and gave it to him. Zen snatched it and examined it.
Father made a face of
annoyance then cleared his throat. “That is the ruby of strong black magic and
the power to control time,” he said seemingly to himself since Zen looked as if
he was fixed more on the ruby than him. “Zekoru and I shall be training you on
how to use it properly.”
“Sure…sounds fun.”
He turned to look at
Flarthenter and I. He took the two remaining stones out of the chest. He gave
the sapphire to Flarth and humbly gave me the emerald.
“Both of these stones
possess both black and white magic. Red magic, you may say,” our father kneeled
down and looks straight at us persistently. “Flarth, your sapphire gives you
stronger teleportation spells. You shall be able to teleport anywhere with
ease. It’s quite handy, if you ask me,” he turns to me. I clutched the emerald
tightly then look at him. His smile was filled with a spine chilling feel when
I looked up at him.
“What is this emerald
capable of other than red magic?” I asked timidly.
“Transformation,” he
answered.
I grinned grandly.
Transformation? In my possession? Wonderful. I laughed in an evil sort of way.
I pointed at Zen and continued to laugh. I stopped suddenly then just went back
to my grin.
Zen glared. “Why does he
have transformation? Why is he the Keeper of the transformation stone?”
“Zenith, my son,” my father
jerked his head and narrowed his eyes at him. “Travallian is because he is.
Each jewel you all hold in your hands possess their own power. Only you can use
the jewels. Not anyone else.”
I set my emerald on my
staff. Flarth put his sapphire in his pocket. Silest locked her diamond to her
necklace. Zen cast a spell on his ruby. It split into two ruby pins. He untied
his cape and pinned it to his cloak.
“First thing tomorrow, you
all shall go to your mentors,” father looked over at Flarth and I. “You two
shall be training with your friends, Zeo, Salina, and Atteno. Their mentor is
willing to teach the both of you some tricks about the family jewels you both
have.”
“Who is their mentor?”
Flarth asked.
“A sorcerer named Necronus.
The father of two children. Elinor and Jakeri. They shall be training with you
as well.”
“Sounds great,” I replied as
I swung my emerald staff horizontally. “I’ll be there as soon as I wake up.”
“Yeah,” Flarth rolled his
eyes. “Same here.”
Our father got up slowly and
looked out the window. “It is time for all of you to get to bed. Tomorrow’s a
big day for all of you, my children.”
We all nodded to him and
walked out of the throne room. Zenith ran down the halls and headed for his
bedroom. When he got in, he slammed the door shut. The three off us all
flinched from the loud sound the door had made.
“Goodnight, you two,” Silest
said to Flarth and I as she yawn.
“Goodnight, Silest,” I said.
“Sleep well, Sil,” Flarth
said as he stretched.
She left us and headed to
her bedroom. Flarth and I both walked toward our rooms and opened the doors.
Both our rooms were across each other.
“See you tomorrow, Trav,”
Flarth said to me. “Can’t wait to see your transforming power. It’s going to be
cool.”
“Yeah,” I replied. “I can’t
wait to see you teleport everywhere. Haha. Goodnight, Flarth.”
“Goodnight.”
We both entered our rooms
and quietly closed the doors.
I walked around my room. I
set my staff beside my bed. I went to my walk-in closet and got some clothes. I
took off my filthy cloak and threw it into a basket. I put on my night clothes and
walked out the closet. I jumped into my bed then laid my head on a pillow. I
fell asleep as soon I closed my eyes.
