My Analysis Results Essay
What kind of person do you think you are learning wise? How do you learn the best way to your knowledge? Well many people may think they learn one way, but they actually may learn another. I actually found this out after taking a HBDI test and a VARK test. These test basically determine your learning style. For example if you're hands on learner, then that is your learner style. When I took these tests my results were opposite of what I have been told my learning style was for almost my whole life. It also made me feel like I had a better connection with the instructors teaching, even with my lowest test scores. The test results may surprise you as much as they did me.
When I took my results for the HBDI, I was kind of confused at first. Then when I came to the end, my results showed me that I was a thinking learner as well as a doing learner. This means when I am learning something, I have to be hands on with it. I have to do it or show to myself that I can actually do the material. If I don?t put these two learning styles together, then I would be a little confused at learning the material. I truly feel that these two results really describe how I am and how I learn on an everyday to day basis. I now feel more comfortable in my math class while she is doing a problem on the board. I just put it on paper myself so I can understand it fully. When I'm in class and a teacher of mine is writing or explaining a problem on the board I think to myself what the answer may be. They're four learning styles to the HBDI. They are thinking, innovating, doing, and feeling. A thinker learner is basically what I have described to for an example of my own, as well as the doing learner. A feeling learner is basically is someone who has to fully understand the material that they are learning, they have to feel what they're doing or they wont understand at all. The innovating learner is someone who basically goes for the learning their selves, they wont understand the material with no help.
According to the VARK test, or the Visual, Aural, Read/Write, and Kinesthetic test, I learned that I'm very multi-modal in all of the categories. I think my results came out true because I use the entire VARK learning mode in everyday life. For example when I'm in class and my instructor is teaching a new lesson I try to visualize in my head the concept of the lesson. I also have to use the aural learning mode because I get a better understanding when listening to my instructor teaches us something. The last two which are the read/write and kinesthetic, I put together and use everyday because you really have to be hands on with what I am learning. I also love to read the material over and over so that I know what I'm actually reading, and writing lets me just get more memorizing of the material. This is what the VARK scores have done for me. I believe my scores are absolutely true in all these ways.
In the HBDI analysis I believe that my math professor is a doing teacher. I believe this because she tries to explain and write things out in different ways so that we understand it. She writes a problem step by step, so that we can get each step. For example if we are learning a new section and she does a problem, she writes the whole problem so we can know how to get the step or answer. If we don't understand the way she did the problem, she will try to do it another way step by step. She does this because we may understand it better. This is a very helpful strategy most of the time. This is why I think she is a doing learner, because she tries to do the problem in a way that we understand it best to her knowledge and to ours.
Analysisizng my English professor based on the VARK analyses and what I learn in her class, she is more of the reading/writing results. She really likes to talk with us about our work. If we do need help with some kind of writing she writes an example on the board to help us with it. Then if we still do not comprehend she reads us some example. This is a very great teaching style for her to me because in English you can't be like a math teacher. You really have to be talkative with the class so they can understand how what to put in their essay.
My lowest score in my VARK analysis was visual. This is very surprising because all my life I have been told that I was always a visualist. Then when I took this test it proved other wise. Even though I'm multimodal in my VARK learning experience, visual is still my lowest score. I believe this is so because when I do a math problem or any kind of work, I just do it. I don't visualize it or nothing, I may afterwards; but while I'm doing my work I'm not. I really think that if I just visualize what I'm going to do before I actually do it, it will give me a better understanding of the work I'm completing. It will also help me bring up my visual test scores higher. For example while my instructor is teaching us a new problem on the board I can be visualizing how I?m going to do it in my way of understanding. I think this will better my visual scores. It affects my learning ability because it just made me into a better student.
Now knowing my results for both of these analysis's tests, this may now convince you to try these test out to see where your true learning styles are. The results may shock you, but you will start to realize that this is your true learning style. Work with it because it may really help you when you're at your lowest point. Good luck!!
