Sailor Mars
Hino Rei is the granddaughter of the Priest of the Hikawa Shrine, a Shinto temple. She attends a catholic school, and is fairly well known for her psychic abilities, which seem to originate from her Shinto faith. She is also the strong headed, determined, loyal, passionate, harsh at times but always very cool SailorMars.Rei lives in her grandpa's temple, and there are three pains in her life. One is her (ahem) frisky grandfather himself, another is her grandpa's apprentice, Yuichiro, who is a klutz and has a crush on her. The third and greatest pain is her good friend SailorMoon.Rei-chan has been accused more than once of having an attitude, and she does. She is very cool, she is quite aware she's cool, and people better notice it too. She can act very domineering, but she is the first one who will put everything she's got on the line before asking (or forcing =) anyone to pitch in, as well.Because of Rei's innate intolerance for klutziness and laziness, and Usagi's innate klutziness and laziness, Rei and Usagi end up colliding fairly often. But while on the surface it would seem SailorMars and SailorMoon do not get along very well, this does not mean they do not care about the other. True, they like to tease each other; Usagi is always keeping Rei's attitude on check, and Rei is often insulting Usagi's naiveness and her lack of grace and balance, as well as her overall shortcomings as a Sailor Soldier. Still, when it matters the most, SailorMars' passionate dedication to the well being of the Moon Princess is second to none, so much so, it's been suggested that Rei-chan might be Usagi's best friend. And while they are both very concerned about the other, they don't really like to remind themselves of it.During the first season, Rei used to have a romantic interest in Mamoru, even if Mamoru didn't quite felt the same way for her...In the anime, at least, Rei also seems to be the Inner Soldier closest to ChibiUsa/Small Lady. Perhaps cause they are both very fond of bashing Usagi, =) but it just might be that SailorMars' strong feelings for Princess Serenity have, at one point, shifted towards Small Lady, as well.
Rei's personality is fairly extreme in both endearing and annoying traits. Rei is actually very smart, very wise, and mature for her age, but sometimes a little too passionate for her own good, and as a result, will get into one of her childish fits every once in a while, usually directed towards Usagi. She has a bratty side, especially when she insists on getting things her way. Still, she's mature enough to know what is important; it is quite obvious that she is very devoted to the mission, and very loyal to her friends. While in the anime, Rei is not afraid to show her childish side, this playful side is a little less obvious in the manga, where she is actually pretty serious, and very cold. In the manga, she takes on a more "responsible young lady" persona, not that the anime portraits an irresponsible Rei-chan, but her aura in the manga is certainly more mature. In the manga, for example, Rei has vowed her chastity to Princess Serenity. It has also been suggested that she may actually hate boys... but that might not be entirely true. In the anime, she's certainly not a boy hater, =) but she does manage to mistreat Yuichiro in every episode he shows up. But she doesn't hate Yuichiro, not at all.Partly because of her Shinto powers, perhaps, she might be the most perceptive of the Inner Soldiers -- so much so, it impresses Michiru, in both the anime and the manga. She notices details, and yes, she is picky, =p but beyond this, it's not uncommon to see Rei being the first one to notice anything unusual, and very often, she is the only one who can perceive the presence of the enemy, before it shows itself. Her well honed senses allowed her to see a vision of the Silence, in the very first episode of SailorMoon S, a vision that would haunt her for most of the season.SailorMars is the second Soldier to join SailorMoon. During the first couple of seasons, she seems to have a special bond with Ami-chan, SailorMercury, of course, this only means Ami-chan gets bossed around more than usual. =) In the last season, the fact that she attended the T*A Private Girl's Academy, an school with both a junior high and a high school programs, meant that she did not have to take a high school entrance exam.In the manga Dead Moon tier, Rei's Super transformation is returned to her by her two crows, -- sorta =) -- Phobos and Deimos, who are, in reality, sprites from the planet Coronis. Also in the manga, her final form is SailorStarMars. She is also the Princess of Mars, and the palace of her guardian is Phobos Deimos Castle.Rei's own Shinto powers are very useful throughout the series, and she uses them to quiet demons and find out about the enemies. SailorMars' powers are fire based, and they are quite aggressive.
