| The world of ADHD is a frustrating one, to say the least. We don't mean to be unorganized, or late, or messy, we JUST ARE. We can get so hyperfocused on something that the house could be burning down around us and we wouldn't even noticed. Sometimes we can't sit still for five minutes. I am usually moving some part of my body, bouncing my knee, tapping a foot, wiggling my toes, etc. We are easily distracted which is why we can be in the middle of many unfinished projects. We make lists, but loose them. We buy dayrunners, but forget to use them, or update them. We can't stay on topic for long periods of time, and tend to end up rambling about something way off topic. We for the most part have no concept of time. I will tell my dear loving husband that I will only be running over to a friends for 5 minutes, and he knows that I will be gone for an hour, yet I won't even realize that an hour has gone by. It can be so frustrating, I hate being late, and no matter how early I try to leave, I still tend to be late, or just barely on time. |

| We are born with our ADHD, it is a short circuiting of the brain, or something like that. As I was saying a moment ago, we are born with our ADHD/ADD and we go to our graves with it. We do not out grow our ADHD, like it was originally thought. We just learn how to live with it with either positive or negative, or both, coping stratigies. We learn to 'hide' our differences, trying to fit into the normal world. I have learned that having a support group of others in the same boat as you helps and one of the best for me has be an e-mail loop called ADDWomen, through Onelist. This list is for women of all ages with ADD. There are two books that I found to be really good. The first one I haven't read yet, but have heard lots of good things about it. It is "Women with Attention Deficit Disorder" by Sari Solden, MS, MFCC. The second one which I am currently reading and highlighting is called "You Mean I'm Not Lazy, Stupid or Crazy?!" by Kate Kelly and Peggy Ramundo, both who themselves have ADD. I own both of them and recommend that you at least read them, if not buy them. As I learn of other good books I will pass them along. |
