a little about the artist behind the dolls!
I was born and raised in South Australia, a great country
and lots of inspiration all around me.
From a young age I dabbled in various crafts which led me to becomming a Certified Ceramic Teacher in 1999.
After teaching ceramics for 1 year I decided to try porcelain dollmaking, with the view to becomming a qualified teacher, so as to offer my students more choices in class.
I was amazed by the realism and character of modern dolls and entered my first doll in the SA Doll and Bear Show in August 2000. That doll won a high 1st place ribbon and the rosette for
Best in Section. I was thrilled about this result and I was
therefore inspired to make more.
In 2001 I also began to make Original Design Teddy Bears, so the dolls took a back seat whilst I developed my bear patterns. I placed the finished bears in show and I am pleased to say that I have won many 1st place ribbons and some Best in Show rosettes for my bears too. Many of my bears now live around Australia & Overseas.
In 2003 I was drawn back to porcelain doll making, though still making teddy bears and I don't intend to put my
dolls in the back seat again.
In 2004 I will be entering dolls in shows again and hope to start my training to become a great dollmaking teacher. I will also be starting to make cloth dolls, just for something different!
These dolls have been originally sculpted by very talented Doll Artists
from around the world.
Each one is then individually handpainted by myself, using only the highest quality porcelain slip imported from the USA.
Some dolls are full porcelain and some have softbodies.
These details are mentioned next to each doll.
In most cases the wigs, accessories and other props are also handmade by myself
All dolls are dressed in outfits that I have made, some smocked others based on my imagination or inspiration I drwa from people or things around me. I like to dress and pose my dolls around a story or theme and this will show from the paintwork to the final completed doll.
