Etosha National Park, Namibia
Approaching storm
Etosha - "Great White Place" is a massive National Park in Northern Namibia. At the core of the park is the Salt Pan that stretchs for over 500km.
It is the salt that attracts the wildlife but the difference with Etosha isthe animals come to see us. Our campground (Okakujo) has a waterhole at its edge, that is floodlit at night, enabling you to view the wildlife that come to drink here, any time of day or night. Just before sunset is the best time to find a prime spot to sit and watch the theatre that is performed on the stage beyond the 2mstone wall.
From dusk onwards, a large variety of animals tentavily find their way down to drink from the waterhole. Lions, black rhino, elephant, giraffe, all drink at the same time seemingly unaware of our presence due to the blinding lights. To paraphrase Alfie, this is truely African theatre at its best.
We also did a game drive in our own truck where we not only spotted the usual wildlife but were treated to the appearance of a male lion and his pride and three hyena lazing by the side of the road.
