Fish River Canyon and the Orange River, Namibia

Fish River Canyon is the second biggest canyon in the world at 550m deep. The sunset here was quite spectacular and it was here, as the sun dipped from view, that Kevin finally popped the question and and where Kerrie, to the applause of about 20 people said, "YES"!
The camp at Orange River was like an oasis in the desert. Beautifully maincured lawns, good facilities and a river snaking beside the camp. It is here that we finally get to see a scorpion, it is huge (15cm), black and hairy! Not something you want to share a tent with.
We get to go canoeing here and it is quite arduous in the heat and glaring sun. There are a few mild rapids but nothing to worry about (except for Donna and Jeff!). After a long morning's canoe it is nice to just lay on the heavenly grass, sucking ice blocks, playing backgammon always with one eye out for more scorpions!
