There is something timeless, familiar and at the same time magical about the books listed below, and reading them for the first time or even the seventh time is a wonderful experience.  These are works of fiction about the sudden appearance or perceived presence of mythic and archetypal elements in life, about the emergence of ancient themes and tales from the dusty recesses of the human mind and the mythic consciousness, into the light of modern day and onto a modern printed page.  These books reinterpret and retell stories and motifs which have been around for a very long time.  Many can be classified as what Terri Windling calls interstitial fiction, or as I like to think of them, doorway books, threshold books or liminal books.

This list is a mere beginning, and I am aware that many books which should be here have not made their way to this page yet.  Those missing  books will certainly find their way here in time, as I remember them, unearth tattered copies in my library and read them again.
