WIGAN Music Collective favourites Kermitz Middle Finger are about to release a new EP and devotees will be relieved to hear their punk ethic still burns as strongly.
One band member has left fir the dizzy heights of London living, but Kermitz, comprising John Parry (singer/guitarist), Neil Gibbons (drums) and Gareth Butcher (bass) have vowed to carry on as a three piece.
Are You Sitting Comfortably? is out on Monday and frontman John talked Music Scene through it.
"
First track, 'The Necrophiliac' is a rock 'n' roll bluesy number about dead people," said John, wryly. He added: "It's just a laugh really, a catchy tune that gets people dancing. I even caught my mum tapping her feet to it before I told her what it was about."Second track 'Robbie Williams is a…' is nothing to do with Robbie Williams. It’s a heavy guitar tune. We don’t pick song titles that are anything to do with the songs. Anyway we don’t like Robbie Williams."
That’s that cleared up then. The EP also boasts Lies, described by John as heavy metal, and Rearview - a song which John said the audience always mistakes for a Green Day track.
Rollercoaster
As an added bonus, the EP features any one of four different hidden tracks.
The band's previous album was recorded inside one marathon 10 hour session before Christmas, a genuine achievement in itself when you consider how long some bands take to put new releases together.
Hey Up Your …, boasted 11 tracks and lasted just 23 minutes and includes songs such as Kill McDonalds and Staccato Pigme.
It represented a rollercoaster return to the punk philosophy of fast, in-your-face extremely short songs.
The band have been spreading the word of Kermit across the North West since then, playing in Manchester and Yorkshire and the Collective is becoming well known in Northern music circles.
Kermitz are set to play the heavy metal all-dayer at Mesnes Park in August, but their attention is focussed firstly on the Haigh Hall event on June 16.
Are You Sitting Comfortably? is available from the Collective venue and Alan's Records, Mesnes Street, Wigan, from Monday.
