SUNDAY, 05.13.2007 + mommy's day
listening to: nothing.

my very first mother's day went great. yep. especially when i get called into work a day earlier. i'll say it again: that's what i get for not being able to say "no". it was either me returning from maternity leave a day early or my manager coming back from vacation. so i opted to be nice and went into work. then again, it wasn't like she was traveling the world. she was still on the island. >:|

to make up for it, we did spend an awesome day together on saturday. it didn't start off too well as kyden had to go to the pediatrician for his first series of shots. he did fairly well, only crying when the needle was being inserted. but it was still very difficult to watch. and of course, guess who got nominated to hold him throughout the ordeal? you guessed it. me.

the picture above is us on boys' day. as i had absolutely NO pictures of him and i together yet, we spent a few hours behind the hawaii convention center and took a few photos. now all we need is one of the three of us.

we didn't do anything really special for boys' day. i forgot to buy him a koinobori. jon couldn't find his, anyway. truthfully, he couldn't even remember me giving him one. i was hoping to get one big enough to fit kyden halfway in. that wouldn't been a cute photo to scrap. oh yes. did i mention i'm now into scrapbooking? thankfully, jon thinks it's a productive and money-well-spent hobby. if he didn't, i'd be in BIG trouble, i tell you.

anyway back to my awesome mother's day weekend. after the doctor's, we ate at anna miller's. a great place if you want breakfast at noon since it's open 24 hours. my favorite? fried rice omelet with extra cheese and hashbrowns. it's nice because they add tomatoes to the omelet as well. jon went with his breakfast usual. rice. two eggs. and bacon. always. it was actually our first time taking kyden to a restaurant. he did well. slept while we waited to be seated. ate while we waited for our food. by the way, i DID NOT know that anna miller's was such a popular restaurant chain until i went to find the link. shows you can learn something new every day.

afterwards we found out that there was a pet expo being held at the blaisdell convention center so we went to look. kyden had a great time seeing the bunnies and doggies. besides seeing a lot of different types of dogs it wasn't as great as i thought it would be. many of the booths featured the same products and there wasn't many geared for cats. come to think of it, i think there was only two booths dedicated to the feline species.

see the awesome race car sticker kyden got for being such a big boy at the doctor's?

after the pet expo, we indulged ourselves with some waiola shaved ice, which to me is the BEST shaved ice i've ever eaten. better than matsumoto's. then again, i've never had matsumoto's, but i'll still stand my ground. :b the ice at waiola is very fine, almost immediately melting from the syrup itself. my favorite: rainbow shaved ice with ice cream. which is an overall favorite of mine at any shaved ice establishment. jon likes his lychee and li hing mui with ice cream and azuki. i can't wait until kyden's old enough to enjoy this treat.

there's two locations, the original one on, you guessed it, waiola street and another one on kapahulu avenue. we frequent the one kapahulu on more as parking's a little easier to find.

we ended the day with a scenic drive around the diamond head area, stopping by diamond head beach. it wasn't the best timing as we weren't dressed for the beach, but we still had a terrific time. kyden even seemed to enjoy it. he wasn't phased at all when the water rushed up around his feet and he smiled as the wind blew through his hair.

oh! i almost completely forgot. for mother's day jon bought me a new camera to replace the one i've had for five years. i've missed out on some really great photos of kyden because a lot of them came out blurry. i think the camera started having difficulty focusing. it would focus on the background and not on him. but after five years, it was about time to retire it.

we replaced it with a fuji f40fd. yep. another fuji. i like them. it's got some neat features. not a touchscreen like some cameras. but other ones like face detection, picture stabilization (which is great when photographing kyden) and twelve different types of scene positions like fireworks and beach.

and yes, i did employ the use of good ol' onmouse rollovers on the picture. yeah for old skool!
