FRIDAY, 03.09.2007 + first week
listening to: nothing.

well, we've survived the very first week. we definitely had our moments but i have to say that it wasn't all that bad. then again, it's just the beginning. there's a whole lot more to come. kyden's been pretty good. we had a rough patch while we were still in the hospital. it seemed he was ready to eat a LOT more than i could provide for him at the time. he would fuss and cry and stay on my breast for long periods without ever seeming satisfied (and never falling asleep) so we had to supplement him with formula until my own milk came in.

now, he'll feed for an average of five minutes before falling asleep. or if i'm REALLY lucky, he'll feed for only two minutes before returning to lalaland. at first it concerned me. going from twenty-minute feedings to two-minute feedings seemed kind of drastic but his "output" is steady and he's actually gained a couple of pounds. and now that he's off of the formula and doesn't sleep as long (waking every one-and-a-half to two hours instead of every three to four), as long as he's healthy, i am not going to complain.

the faces he makes are amazing to watch. i'm absolutely mesmerized by his eyes. after his feeding, he'll usually furrow his brows and i'll know i'll be doing a diaper change soon after. it's the cutest look of absolute concentration. other times he'll just lie on his pillow and look around. eyes constantly moving. searching. and if we're really lucky, he'll give us a smile.
