FRIDAY, 03.17.2006 + on fire

happy saint patrick's day!

so today, one of the esclators caught on fire and the entire building had to be evacuated. it's funny because rarely does anyone pay any heed to the fire alarms. usually they go off for some reason or the other and no attention is given or needed. except for today, of course. at first, we were only moved to the front entrance, where my cart is located. after assessing the situation, and seeing the sea of japanese tourists nearby, my district manager told my coworker and me to take advantage of the situation and use the opportunity to call out and get customers. seriously. first of all, i'm all about taking opportunities, but i do think there's a time and place, and the middle of a crisis is NOT what i consider an opportunity. second of all, WHO in the right mind is going to want to pick a pearl when the building is on fire?

after an hour of waiting around, we were then instructed to fully evacuate the building and then to go around the side and wait in the bus area, which is at the rear of the building. not seeing any reason to have the two of us waiting around, i got to go to the marketplace and sell over there for the time being. we were finally let back in around 1:00. giving me a whole two hours to actually sell at my cart.

+ + +

so two very wonderful events took place this week. although it's a few days past, i have to send a congratulations to my sister and her husband on their two years of marriage bliss. and so of course i have to ask ... when am i going to become an auntie?

and just yesterday, jon informed me that his best friend and his girlfriend of four years exchanged vows very privately, choosing only a couple of her family members to bear witness. another ceremony will be held when it is more financially feasible. and when more of his family are available to attend.
