happy st. paddy's day!

jon and i love orchids, so it was great timing that there was an orchid show the same weekend jon was back home on o'ahu. jon was actually back on o'ahu since last wednesday. mazda sent him there for training, which ended on friday, and he stayed for the weekend to visit his family and friends.

the orchid show was held by the kunia orchid society. it was from friday (the 14th) until sunday (the 16th) at the del monte kunia gym.

jon took a lot of photos of the orchids at the show. unfortunately, the files of the orchid photos were huge and only six out of the twenty photos he took made it into my yahoo email. stupid yahoo. they could at least warn you like how hotmail does that the receiver has reached their storage limit. and of course, not wanting to take up so much memory on his computer back at home either, jon deleted the originals. but i still got a few nice photos. here they are:

currently, jon and i are *trying* to grow a brassia named jiao wan and a three paphiopedilums named ting ting, rin rin, and ran ran. rin rin and ran ran are twins. they came off of ting ting when we were repotting her. i don't have photos of them yet. we had another paphi, but unfortunately she died. :( she was named after the jimi hendrix song "purple haze". we called her hazy for short.

by the way, if you're on the big island this saturday, speedhawaii is having their annual big island car cruise. it begins at the uh-hilo parking lot at 9:30am and ends at the old airport in kona, with a stop in waimea. come check it out and support the hawaii food bank by bringing canned goods.
