happy valentine's!

i wasn't going to post anything for valentine's. just maybe the lyrics to a valentine's song. wait a minute. what am i saying? i *did* post just the lyrics to a valentine's song, i changed my mind though. i felt that i should at least write something.

jon and i aren't spending valentine's together this year. february is all about sacrificing since the seventh is one of our month anniversaries, the fourteenth is valentine's, and the twenty-second is his birthday. i would like to celebrate all three, but my unemployed butt really can't afford it. besides, i'm torn between being a romantic and being resentful that society in a sense requires us to celebrate valentine's. why should one day be more special than any other to show the one you love how you feel?

but anyway. i went out to shooter's last night because jon (not my jon) is moving to kona to be with his wife and daughter, so it was one of the last times he'd be out with us. well, at least for shooter's. i think he'll come back on the weekends once in awhile.

so iris, digga, jaime, jon, and zak was there. well, i really can't say that zak was *there* there. he always just stays outside and never comes in. i guess in a way that makes sense. why pay $5.00 to get in when you don't dance and you're restricted to a certain area of the bar because you're underage? then again, you should always make the best of every situation. which jaime fully failed to do last night when we betted him $30.00 to dance with this old lady that was there. i think she was in her late 40s or 50s. she looked like she was on drugs, though. she'd dance with her eyes close and just kind of "float" around on the dance floor with her arms out. very drama-ish. it was really mean of us to dare jaime to dance with her, but we needed *some* kind of entertainment. she ended up asking this really young guy to dance later on. he went for about three minutes and then left her. then some old guy started to dance with her and i guess they clicked, because after that they were always together.

i didn't make it to school today. jon called me right when my alarm went off to tell me "happy valentine's" and then i went back to sleep, wanting to give myself another fifteen minutes. that fifteen minutes accidently turned into forty-five! iris woke me up when she called me at 8:00 to tell me she was coming to pick me up. it kind of sucked because i had a paper due at 11:00 which i hadn't finished yet and i had been planning to finish it in the library. i felt a little weird missing school because i couldn't get up in time, yet still having to get up because i had to finish my paper. oh well.

i took a really long nap after i emailed my paper to my professor. i think i sleep from about 12:30 to 5:00. i was supposed to go with iris to pick some things up later in the day, but i was sleeping. we met up once i woke up though. i went to her house to help her make chicken katsu for her boyfriend. it came out really good, thanks to jaime's recipe. it was one of the best katsu i've ever eaten. and here's the recipe:

chicken katsu

boneless chicken thighs or breasts (flattened)
flour
eggs (beaten)
panko (japanese bread crumbs)
vegetable oil

katsu sauce:
ketchup
worstershire sauce
shoyu (soy sauce)
brown sugar (optional)

heat the oil in a frying pan. dip the chicken into the egg and then coat it with flour. dip the chicken in the egg a second time and then coat it with panko. fry it in the oil until it's a nice golden brown. lay the cooked chicken on paper towels to drain the oil.

for the sauce combine all the ingredients to taste. the brown sugar can be added as a sweetener. serve sliced (if preferred) with sauce for dipping.

and that's it. i hope you enjoy the chicken katsu if you decide to make it. and i definitely hope you enjoy your valentine's day and your weekend. it's a three day weekend for me! woohoo! but i have another paper due on tuesday. :b

oops. i almost totally forgot. if you're in the hilo area on friday, the 21st (that's in exactly one week) come check out the speedhawaii.com party and car show at uncle mikey's. it's from 8:00pm to 1:30. there'll be live bands, nice cars, and me and the rest of the speedhawaii models. it's $5.00 to get in and $15.00 to get your car in the show (the $15.00 includes the party entrance fee). the car show is for all ages, but you have to be eighteen and older to enter the party.
