*sigh* another of my infamous recaps. i really don't know why these bother me so much. i guess maybe because i feel as if i've neglected to write for the days that i'm recapping. but on the other hand, if i had had the time to write, none of the events would've happened.
friday:
i dyed iris's hair after school on friday. what an experience it turned out to be! i've never actually done someone else's hair, nor have i ever used such a light color (iris uses clairol ultress's maximum blonde), so it was a bit daunting. i tried to focus on her roots because they had grown out a bit. it was going well, until the dye started to color a bit faster than expected. after twenty minutes, the top of her head had turned from black to a most unusual orange, almost akin to that of the dyed hair of old japanese women.
and not only did the top of head color too fast, the bottom didn't color at all. so there she stood, with the top of her head lighter than the bottom. we debated our options, and since i wasn't about to chance dyeing her hair again, we opted for trimming the darker bottom part. i've never cut hair before. but hey, how hard is it to cut in a straight line. so after five minutes with the scissors, i took two inches off the bottom, stood back, and was actually proud of my work. :) but i'll never color someone else's hair again.
i had actually planned to stay home that night, but when iris mentioned that they were probably going to go down to red roads, i couldn't pass it up. red roads is located in the puna area, a good twenty to thirty minutes south of hilo. the road was built using red cinder, hence the nickname "red roads". during the day, red roads is a great place for sightseeing. there's so much to see down there. at night, it's the location for most of our, albeit illegal, street races. especially on a friday night, the road is lined with cars.
twenty minutes into our stay there, everyone started to leave because cops were thought to have been coming down. we stayed, knowing that it was a false call. within half an hour, everyone came back. there were a few races, but it was pretty much uneventful. the highlight of the night was when i had to pee. everyone kept telling me to pee in the lava field that stretched behind us. um, yeah. i'd like to see them tackle the lava with heels on. :b the tall grass the cars were parked in was another suggestion. and i would've if the tall grass was head high instead of thigh high and i didn't have to *stand up* to pull my pants on. and i also would've if i wouldn't be in everyone's line of sight. so digga nicely offered to drive me somewhere less public. we ended up driving to the vacationland road and i relieved myself by one of the many coconut trees that lined the street.
we returned to the group only for me to realize that i didn't have my phone. i had iris call my phone and then realized that i usually put it on *vibrate* so i can feel it, but since it should still light up, i wasn't that worried, until i remembered that i could've sworn that i left it in my back pocket ... we drove back down to the vacationland road (with iris and i squooshed up in the front seat of digga's crx because i needed her to call my cell) and indeed, there it was lying in the bushes where i had peed. thank god that it was spared and i didn't actually pee on it. dropping it in the toilet was enough (one day, it was in my back pocket and i was pulling my pants down and it fell in), i couldn't bear if i had peed on my cell, too.
while returning for the second time to our group, cars began to pass us and soon after we saw the flashing blue lights of the cops behind us. they blocked one exit, so we had to turn around and head back the other way. and that was friday night. the moral of the story? don't carry your cell phone in your back pocket. :b
saturday:
i had to wake up early saturday morning to prep myself for my very first photo shoot for speedhawaii.com. the morning looked promising, unlike the weekend of ellen's shoot, the sky was blue and the sun was shining. but as we left iris's house, the sky turned overcast and gloomy. we decided headed out to the botanical gardens, hoping for better weather, but were disappointed at the lack of sunshine and the lack of quality of the place. so we drove back into hilo and settled for liliuokalani park.
we spent an hour or two taking pictures where iris kept on coaxing me with "smile keri. smile." i was torn between giving full smiles or closed smiles. afterwards, iris and i went back to her house and ended up taking a little two hour power nap. afterwards, we headed for sushi at ocean sushi deli and tried the *famous* sushi pizza. we also ordered our favorites, the hamanako roll (unagi, cream cheese and kaiware rolled in goma) for me and the downtown roll (chicken katsu, lettuce, and teri sauce) for iris.

the highlight of saturday was definitely when jon called to say that he'd coming in to hilo. we hadn't plan for him to visit this weekend, but dustin wanted him to help him drop in his brother's motor. what a bonus!
watching the two of them drop bryce's motor back into his civic hatchback was definitely interesting. well, to me at least. i'm a very curious person and i love to see jon in his element. i helped a bit too and got dirty. but by 1:00 sunday morning, the excitement had worn off and i curled up in the front seat of jon's car and fell asleep.
sunday:
jon woke up early sunday morning to get his back window tinted, since he wasn't able to tint it on his own. afterwards, he went back to dustin's house to finish up on bryce's car and then picked me up to meet up with dustin's family at mcdonald's for lunch. after the deliciously fattening extra value meals, we spent a few dollars at the fun factory located upstairs of mcdonald's. :) i hadn't been there for years. jon and i played "point blank", "bust-a-move", and "san fransisco rush". i'm a sucker for cute games.
*sigh* and that was my weekend. :)
