The Making of a Butterfly

God placed on this Earth beauty of all kinds:
The heavens, the earth, the sea and the sky,
None more beautiful than the butterfly.

The butterfly starts as a wiggly worm,
A creature of cute and fuzzy mirth,
Delighting children who squeal with joy.

Then a strange thing happens to this being.
His world is challenged, his foundations rocked.
He crawls into bed and pulls the blankets over his head.

There he stays, all safe and sound,
But the changes still abound.
This wall constricts, it must come down!

Away it crumbles and the poor creature tumbles out,
Left on a branch dazed and dazzled,
Not just sure of up from down.

Two choices, this being faces.
One the path of least resistance,
The other quite unthinkable and risky.

One will leave him sitting on a branch, lifeless.
The other will permit him to live.
To live, to love and to fly to the heavens.

This is the story of the butterfly.
The most beautiful of all Gods creatures,
For he is the one who chose to fly.

For Cheryl, may you always fly high despite the struggles.
