Maybe if I write about 1 thing each day I can keep up to date. My update for today is about the ride...
Saturday June 6 and Sunday June 7th I accomplished a feat that a few months ago I thought would be hard to survive through. I bicycled all the way from Chicago to Lake Geneva in Wisconsin. Then I got up the next morning and biked back. It was 95 miles up, and about 80 back (I had to get a short ride in the van because I was too slow to get back in time for the closing ceremony). I rode with two other gals (and occasionally a third). We called ourselves the cabooses because well, to put it mildly, we were a little slow. We had gorgeous sunshine and mild temperatures both days making for excellent riding, although now I have some really funny suntan lines. Another biker told me that the brown circles on my hands (from the gloves) were a sign of "bikers cancer". Believe it or not I not only survived the weekend, I got up Monday morning and rode the 17-mile round-trip to and from work!!
On the fundraising side I raised $1357 so far, with a few people still promising to send in a donation. While this didnt make my personal goal of $2000, it will ALL go to TPAN and BEHIV. In addition, we were told that the budget for the ride was kept so tight that some of our registration fee may also be given to the organizations! As of the day of the ride together we had raised over $56,000, with many pledges yet to be counted.
All in all this was an amazing experience, so Im warning you now Ill probably be hitting you all up to be a sponsor again next year :)
A few months ago I think I was complaining about not having enough to do at work. Those days are LONG gone. We have several big things going on this summer, and because they are new they have lots of places a volunteer can be worked in. We also took on a project that is supposed to come with a staff person, but we havent hired the person yet, leaving the rest of us to try and do their work. Anyway, because of all that havent been able to take time to update the site, sorry to my two readers :) Hopefully Ill be able to find some time to write a little more in the next few days.
