Lesson 9

Objective:

Students’ will give oral presentations in which they will introduce their Surrealism projects to the rest of the class.  They will demonstrate their understanding of Surrealism through their projects and in the explanation of their projects will reference specific textual and visual works that we have studied in class.

Procedure:

Each student will present their Surrealism project to the class. During their presentation they will explain their project, comment on their creation process and comment on what works we studied in class influenced them as they created their own artistic representation.

As each student presents their project to the class, have another student take a picture of their project with a digital camera. (If the project was a written work, have the student email their work as a word document.) The projects will be uploaded onto a webpage. This webpage will be the class’ personal Surrealism art gallery. It will consist of a picture of their project, along with a title and short description (which will be take from their reports) of their artistic creation.  The students can then access that webpage to view their peers’ work, as well as to show their work to their friends and family. The lesson may take two days if students have a lot to say about their projects.

Assessment:

Students will be assessed on their ability to explain their artistic creation in relation to Surrealism and the visual and textual works they have been discussing in class.  The breakdown will be as follows:

Artistic creation, including creativity and style – 30 pts

Paper, ideas, organization and clarity – 20 pts
