Chapter One

HTML Programming - Chapter 2


Welcome to the second chapter. For those of you who missed the first chapter, I have provided a link on this page. I strongly recommend you read the first chapter before proceeding to this chapter.

As I had mentioned earlier, today we will deal with formatting of the text. You will notice that it is as simple as in any wordprocessor.

  • Open your Windows "Notepad" application and open the file TUTORIAL1.HTML(the one you created in Chapter one.)Add the tags <B>and <U>after the <BODY> tag. As we know from our earlier lesson, it should be completed with </B> and </U> tags as shown below.
  • <HTML><HEAD><TITLE>"Kerala Samajam, Riyadh"</TITLE></HEAD><BODY><B><U>Welcome to Samajam Tutorials.</U></B></BODY></HTML>
  • Save the file as TUTORIAL2.HTML.
  • Open another window of your internet browser and open the file you just created, ie TUTORIAL2.HTML. This will help you to switch between this tutorial and your exercise page without going back.
  • What do you see after you have opened the file. You are now able to see the lines you had typed in the BODY section both bold and underlined. This is how you format your text. As you have probably guessed by now, you could get italics by using the tags <I> and</I>.

    • We will continue with formatting in our next lesson where you will learn to change the font size, background color, font color etc. For those of you who are anxious to speed up, right click your mouse and select "View source". You will be able to see how this page has been programmed. You could then experiment with all the features I have provided in this page, though some of them might be difficult at this stage.
