Our (un)lucky main character. Keitaro pretty much has the job every guy would dream of having, nix the cuts and bruises. Also, in a realistic point of view, he seems to be the most unlikely candidate for a romantic lead. But as anime/manga tradition goes, a loser of a guy with hidden talent is often the lead. Which leads me to think of the Japanese creators putting underdogs on top because they reflect upon themselves...

Keitaro has a habit of collecting photo booth pictures of himself. It's a habit he's had for a while since he can't get a girl to take a picture with him.

Another trademark of Keitaro is his klutziness and bad luck. He's gotten himself into a lot of trouble because he slips on this and spills on that, etc. Usually he's a chronic victim of wrong-place-wrong-time syndrome. Leaning on a weak railing and falling in the hot springs while the girls are bathing, for example...

Don't think Keitaro's completely without a redeeming charm. For instance, his skills at cooking are very exceptional, since he's polished them over time (you'll know why if you read the manga; they don't mention his cooking skills at all in the anime).

The most redeeming charm of Keitaro is that he's a self-less and very caring person. When someone looks troubled, he's always willing to help and try to make that person feel better. Also, when it comes down to it, he would put aside all feelings for himself to make someone happy.

He's also not as perverted as everyone says he is. Most of the time his lechery is limited to fantasies (some of them he ends up smacking some sense into himself), accidentally catching a glimpse of the girls changing or bathing in the hot springs, and accidental breast.. grabbing.... Uh, yeah. But he doesn't do it intentionally! Keitaro's actually a decent, harmless person who wouldn't hurt a fly (hell, a fricken cockroach scares him in the anime).

But one word describes Keitaro better than any other: INDESTRUCTIBLE. This guy can not die! You'll see him punched into orbit, whacked by kendo sticks, run over by cars, flung into the air by Ki attacks, get hit by missles, live through a mid-air explosion, survive a 100 foot fall from a seaside cliff, and on and on. And since he's a guy, you can't leave out a scene where he gets hit in the balls. My god.... Seriously though, this guy's immortal. I wouldn't be surprised if you shot him right in the head and he'd still be alive.

Nevertheless, nothing's gonna stop our hero from keeping his childhood promise! The little girl 15 years ago is the only one who truly loves him, and she may still keep his promise with her! Despite all the opposition against him, Keitaro refuses to give up, and is determined to get into Tokyo U no matter what

Editor's Opinions: More or less of Keitaro has changed from the manga. Actually, the only thing that's changed is the way he gets beaten. In the anime, whenever he gets hit he flies into the sky, which becomes stale and cliche later on. Although I'm used to bad English voiceovers in dubs, Keitaro's voice just drives me nuts. He, like the voiceover for Naru, sounds best when a moment is calm and serious, but when he tries to get into character, he has a high nasal voice that constantly breaks. I seriously couldn't stand it.

    Differences in anime version:
-Keitaro was asked to come to Hinata house by his grandma
-Naru is a lot nicer to him, but the ruthlessness of her beatings hasn't changed
