Alliant Energy was and is seeking to raise out areas electric. This raise request is due to construction of the Emery Generating Station located near Mason City Iowa.Why should our area have to absorb the high blunt end of this construction outside our community. A rate hike of even 10% is to much for our community to absorb and stay afloat. We have lost a major amount of our community now to over taxation city and utiltity cost. The only thing that will be left is to move from this town of tax hounds and pocket pickers.
I am sure a raise of this caliber would devastate and cripple our comunity and livelyhood. This again will cause all citizens to live in a much less comfort and much more worry on how they will survive while cutting baclk on food and needed medician..
With many factories closed wages poor and below standards, and unstable job markets this raise will worsen our economic developement and personal survival. By placing this outrageous burden on the present homeowners and companies it will dismiss any hopes of Keokuk exixting.
Neither new families, companies, merchants, or factories will survive to produce a vital mark in our community. This in turn will force our towns population to decreas even more thus putting a hardship on those left behind that can't move out.
The proposed increase would undoubtly cause all of the towns elderly, low income and disabled to cut back on usage to reduce cost, while trying to stay within their fixed income budgets. This in turn would cause more suffering in the extreme heat or sever cold. I for one know we pay to much for electric and to add another 12 to 18 % on our monthly electric bill would take more then a weeks pay from the working household and over a 1/4 of those on social security income. We the people do have a say in what happens in our community. Go to the Alliant Utility Board link above, look for the comment form or address fill it out and be heard!
Tell the Iowa Utility Board you are not going to accept Alliants Energy's increase.
You will will not allow Alliant to cripple your communtiy and turn Keokuk in to a
dust bowl.
We all must stand together and fight send your objection in TODAY!
