In kenya more than half million people play scrabble mainly in their houses, schools, and institutions. About 3000 kenyans play this game competitively at district or provincial levels while about 200 players are regular national players.

There are 12 National Tournaments in year with six of them hosted in Nairobi while the other six distributed one per province except North Eastern. These tournaments are held once every month.

During the games some unique performances such as high word scores, high individual totals, high Game totals or high number of bonuses are awarded some prices-- normally soft beverages, sodas, beer, or tots of whisk depending on availability. But at the end of the tournament trophies are given to the top three with some accompaniments. These accompaniments include small cash, a bottle of whisk for the best man and a bottle of wine for the best lady. T-shirts and cups are also given to the top 10 depending on availability.
