While living with Grandma, I had to go to school, naturally.  So.. Grandma told my Aunt Faye ( who was just a "few") years older than me and my Uncle ( who was about a year older) that it was up to them to see that I got to school alright.

There were no school busses .. and no ... we didnt have to ride in Covered Wagons either. We WALKED !  It seemed to me then like it was miles away .. but it wasn't.  It was a Big One Room School house .. that sat up on the hill in Jessietown, Ky.  I remember a big ole pot bellied stove.

One winter...after it had snowed ... we STILL had to go to school.  So .. Faye (who was like a big sister) would see to it I was wrapped up real good.  Her and Vic would take me by the hand and we'd half walk and half run out the lane to the main road.  Going down hill towards the school there is a big curve.  With snow and ice all over the road...Faye and Vic both decided we could "SLIDE" the rest of the way to school!  They both took off running and sliding half draggin me in between them and laughing their heads off !  I saw the curve coming up and just KNEW a car would come around that curve and squash us all !!!
With a sigh of relief ... we made it safely around that curve.

Funny how today I have problems remembering yesterday ... but can remember so much of when I was growing up like it was yesterday !
