Most of you probably know that Alex (aka: AJ) McLean checked into rehab for depression, anxiety, and alcohol abuse. Alex has amazed me since I first heard the Backstreet Boys in 1995. When someone started to rap in "We've Got It Goin' On," I knew that that voice was the coolest thing I had ever heard. When the Backstreet Boys reappeared two years later, I found out that the person behind that voice was Alex McLean. He may not have been my favorite member of the group (I had a thing for blonde southern boys it seems), yet I loved listening to his voice. The fact that it was different made it nice to listen to. That voice has helped me get through some stressful days. No matter what, hearing that raspy voice helped me to de-stress. When I recently heard that the person behind that voice, Alex (whom I think is a great person), needed help for his problems, I turned to prayer. I asked my church to pray for him (and all those also in his situation) and I prayed myself. Now, Alex is out of rehab and doing much better. However, he still needs prayers because addiction isn't that easy. I don't speak from personal knowledge, just from years of health class. Addictions don't automatically go away because someone goes to rehab. It will still take a while for Alex to truly get better and be 100% again. In the wake of the World Trade Center, this may all seem insignifcant. And in reality, it is. However, sometimes, you need to take a break from hearing about the bombings and the Anthrax. When you need that break, please, take the time to think about Alex. I don't think that anybody needs to end up that way. But there is almost always hope. All I'm asking is that Backstreet fans continue to support Alex. Thank you!
