Welcome back to familiar faces and welcome to those who are joining the Centre for the first time.
Management Committee
The Centre is managed by parents � busy parents who give up their time to help ensure the centre runs smoothly. I would like to take this opportunity on behalf of the Centre to thank the outgoing committee.
The 2006 committee:
- Megan Cooper is President
- Maureen Elliot is Treasurer
- Anita O�Brien remains Secretary
- Gabriel Pinter holds the newly created position of Occupational Health and Safety officer
- Andrea Hellicar, Anne MacNamarra- Sharp, Kerrie Preddy and Wendy Walls are members of the management committee.
You will soon be able to put faces to names when you visit the centre�s website. Please feel free to contact any of these people to discuss issues regarding the Centre.
Who looks after your children?
Kathie (Coordinator) has a teaching degree (primary school), and is currently working on her PhD in education. She teaches part-time at Macquarie University as well as occasionally teaching at schools within the local area. Kathie began at the Centre when Manni (her daughter) was in kindergarten and has tried to develop a sense of community, where families know and support each other.
Sarah holds a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education and teaches causally in local primary schools. She enjoys spending time with her family (you will sometime see Kye and Charlotte), friends and reading. What she enjoys most about the Centre is the relationships that she develops with children and their families.
Jono is working towards a Bachelor of Arts with a Diploma of Education (secondary) at Macquarie University. He holds a Queens� Scout Awards and a Senior First Aid Certificate. His interests include abseiling, hiking, camping, ultimate Frisbee, movies and Rovers (part of Scouting). At the Centre he likes that the kids enjoy being there and that the staff are a pleasure to work with � overall a great environment.
Kath has been with the Centre for 9 months. Her interests include Rob ... Rovers and � Relaxation. Kath was previously studying a Diploma in Fine Arts and has just begun a Certificate in Business Administration. Kath is providing considerable support to children�s developing artistic skills.
Holly joined us in July last year. She is in her final year of a Bachelor of Arts Degree at Sydney University. Holly will be in China on a working holiday teaching English from mid March to mid June.
Marcus has just joined us. He is just about to start his Degree in Early Childhood at Macquarie University, having completed the Diploma in Children�s Services. Marcus has worked as a teacher in a number of countries including China and Zambia. He enjoys rugby and sport and plans to travel more once he has finished his degree.
Quality Assurance
Thank you to all those families who filled out surveys at the end of last year. This is the exact same survey that families will be asked to complete during the validation visit later this term.
Families are asked to rate the Centre as unsatisfactory, satisfactory, good or high quality. The Quality Area rated highest by those families who completed the survey was Area 6 Health, Nutrition and Wellbeing. 100% believed that the Centre promotes balanced and healthy eating, uses correct food handling and hygiene practices and find ways to meet the health requirements of all children.
90% of families rated us as good or high quality in Quality Area � Respect for Children. This includes the principles of: staff foster self esteem and confidence in children, staff respect the diversity of children�s backgrounds and abilities and accommodate the individual needs of each child; and children are treated equitably.
The highest rated principle was in the Area for Programming and Evaluation where 100% of families believed that the Centre organised programs that provided opportunities for children to join in creative and expressive activities and recreational activities and experiences. Please feel free to ask staff any questions you have about accreditation.
