Chapter Three
Part One
Michi hugged her books close to her chest as she marched slowly to school. Jeanna came up and tapped her on the shoulder. Michi turned and gave her a fake smile.

The Aisnlys are frantic, looking for Ellette. Jeanna said glumly.

Yeah. They called me three times last night. Michi answered.

Hey guys. Kiki walked up behind her.

Hey, Kiki. Jeanna answered.

Hey, guys? Why are we even going to school? We need to be out looking for Ellette! Michi suddenly cried.

But, what will our teachers say if all three of us suddenly go missing from school? Kiki wanted to know.

They all know that we hang out together, and they know that we are struggling without Ellette, so they will probably just pass it off. Michi hypothesized.

True! Why dont we get rid of our stuff, and go get Ellette! We cant just leave this alone! We have to go get her! Jeanna cried.

But where do we leave our stuff? Kiki wondered.

At the school. If we hide it, then we can leave it there without anyone noticing. Jeanna suggested.

With that said, the three girls picked up the pace toward school.

Okay, we made it to Central Park, so where do we go now? Lian asked the other two Megami. Where do we start looking?

Im not sure. Hey! What about the Shadows old hideout! You know the one we spied on when we first became Megami? The one on the pier. Avari suggested.

Not a bad idea. Lets go! Lian said as the three girls took off toward the pier.

***

Zoe, Lian, and Avari snuck around the old broken down building. The Shadows used to plot here, but the girls had exposed them, and the shadows had retreated to their other hideouts. There were tons of them spread throughout New York, but this one had been the biggest.

They slowly made their way inside, Lian especially, being careful to not trip over the boxes that were piled up all over. They spread out, looking this way and that, searching the place form top to bottom, looking for Nicole. They met back up in the center of the main room.

Anything? Lian asked the other two.

Nah. Nobodys been here for a while. It shows. Avari answered quietly. What about you Zoe?

Same here. She stated bluntly.

Lian was about to put something else in, when a familiar mind voice interrupted their conversation.
Girls! We have a major problem on Seventh Street! An apartment building caught on fire, and there are, like, eight people trapped people inside, the fire is hot enough that the firemen cant get to them! Lian, well need your water and Ice, and Zoe and Avari, youve got to help get those people out!

But... Kin! Were busy! Were looking for Ellette! Argued Lian.

Listen, Ellette is still alive. If she had died, you would have felt it! The people in the apartment could die! We need you down there! Kin shouted.

All right! All right! Well get there ASAP. Avari conceded.

Avari, Zoe, and Lian joined hands and teleported away.
The three Megami appeared right in front of the burning building. People around them were screaming for the people trapped inside. One of the screaming people spotted them and rushed over to Lian.

Please! You have to help my son, Sui Megami! Hes trapped on the sixth floor!!! She screamed frantically as she gripped Lians hands. Please help him! Hes only six! Please!

Settle down. Settle down Maam. Ill help in any way I can. Lian consoled. As soon as this was out of her mouth, many people ran up to her asking her and the others to save husbands, children, and wives. The girls told them that theyd do all they could.

It wasnt too long before the police got word that the Megami were there. The rushed over to where the crowd was and shoved their way through. When they got to the center, they were surprised to find no Megami.

Huh? Where are they? wondered the chief. A woman, in tears, tapped him on the shoulder, and pointed to the building. Theyre up there? the woman nodded. Well, thatll be the last we see of them. He chuckled a bit as he said this. The people around him looked at him, on their faces were expressions of fear and disgust.

***

Lian coughed heavily as she made her way around the broken down building. She and the Megami were going up the steps and had been walking for a while now. Lian had her hand out, spraying ice and water all over, making a path in the ash and dust.

Lian? Will you be alright? Avaris voice, too, sounded hoarse from the smoke.

Dont you worry about me. I'm no worse than you! Just worry about getting those people out of here! Lian called back.

Are you sure? Zoes voice was also hoarse.

Yes. We only have one more flight of stairs to go up. Hurry. Lian picked up the pace, and the others followed suit.

Soon, Lian heard the sound of the water hitting a door. She gave it a short burst of energy, knocking it down. They slowly made their way inside. Lians sensitive ears picked up heavy breathing, and quiet talking.

What do we do, now? Where are we? Were only on the sixth floor. Are we going to die?

Many of the voices sounded young. Lian turned to the other two. She pointed in the direction of the voices. Theyre over there! Then, turning to the voices, she called to them. Hey! You! My name is Lian Miyoko! My friends and I are here to help you!

A couple tense seconds passed before a response came. Arent you a Megami?

Yes we are. Keep talking so we can find you and keep low so that Lian can keep shooting water without hurting you! Avari shouted back.

Alright! a dull conversation began as the girls inched their way toward the voices.

So, were you guys born with the powers?

Zoe answered this time. No. We got them about a year ago.

You guys seem young.

Lian spoke. We are. Were sophomores in highschool.

Which highschool?

Sorry, confidential! Avari called.

Lian peered around a bunch of collapsed wood and saw a huddled bunch in the corner. They were somewhat away from the fire, but the fire was drawing closer. I can see you! she called. She aimed a spray of water around them and doused the fire nearby. They stood up and looked in their direction. Lian picked up what looked like the six-year-old boy the lady had been talking about. She turned to the Kaze Megami. Avari! Weve got to get them out of here fast. Theyve inhaled too much smoke!

What do we do? Avari called back.
Lians eyes darted around, looking for an escape route. She gasped happily when she saw a window. She turned to one of the men. Does that window lead to an escape ladder?

The man nodded. But its broken half way down, and the rest of it isnt sturdy enough to hold even a child.

Lian growled quietly. She set the boy down and doused the flames that were inching toward them. She put a wall of ice between them and the fire. That ought to give us enough time to get them out of here. She thought. She turned to Avari. Avari, fly out there and lower them to the ground as I hand them out to you.

I cant drop them six stories! Avari argued.

Zoe ran for the window. No, but I can help.

You cant fly! Lian argued.

Not by myself. But with something metal to stand on, I bet I can.

Whatever. Lian sighed. Zoe dropped out the window, and soon returned on a glowing trash can lid.

Im playing Static Shock for now. She said, laughing a bit.

A burst of light came from behind Avari's back as her wings materialized. The group of people stared intently at the gorgious angel wings. She flew out the window and down to where she could catch the person, and quickly and safely lower them to the ground. Lian picked up each person and handed him or her out. She had gotten four out of the eight out when she noticed that her ice was melting! The fire was not only drying up her water, but it was burning through her ice! What is going on? Regular ice would last longer than that!

She turned and put up a new thicker wall, but just as before, the ice began quickly melting. Realizing it was no use trying to win the fight with the fire, she continued handing the people out the window. Once she finished, she headed for the window before the last bit of ice melted. However, the ice was melting so fast, that it finished before she got out. Surprisingly, the fire headed straight for her. She jumped out the window, allowing Zoe to catch her.

The three girls lowered themselves to the ground, coughing from the smoke. Many of the people rushed over to them, thanking them, and giving them hugs. The Megami bent over, weakened and their lungs needing the proper air desperately. The police looked on in disgust. As soon as the crowd around the Megami dissipated, somewhat, the police made their way to them.

Youre under arrest. Stated the police chief. He cuffed Lian as the other police officers cuffed Zoe and Avari. People immediately began protesting.

They saved my son! They saved my life! Theyre heroines! What is your problem?

Hey! I have strict orders to bring these girls to justice! Theyre trying to gain our trust before they unleash their real powers. Cant you see that they are a menace to society? cried the chief.

A scream coming from the still burning building cut off any more protests the crowd was about to voice. Oh my gosh! Someones still up there! cried a man in the crowd.

The chief looked like he was trying to decide weather to let the girls go, or try to have the firemen go get them.

Let the girls go! They can go save that person! came a voice from the crowd.

The police finally, yet reluctantly released the girls, and they were on it in an instant. The crowd waited in hopeful, yet fearful suspense, as minute by minute passed by with no sign of the girls.

Those girls probably took off and left that person in there to burn to death. Those girls are-

Heroines! Brian cut off the chief. Theyve saved my life as well as yours on many occasions! And yet, youre out to arrest them! What did they ever do to you? Brian stepped out of the crowd.

He chief was about to object when an explosion came from the building. Lian! Zoe! Avari! Brian yelled.

Sure enough, Avari jumped down to the ground and took off to the left. Zoe followed. Lian jumped down, but stood there, and looked up at the burning building.

Well, Sui Megami? came the voice of the chief. She turned to him. Wheres the person that was still up there?

Well, it wasnt just any person. Lian answered shakily. She looked up at the chief. He was surprised when he saw the tears falling from beneath her sunglasses. It almost scared him when she removed them.

Who was it then? The chief sounded less confident then usual, not able to bring himself to speak harshly to her when she looked like that.

Lian looked at him hard. Jin. she answered quietly.
