| Chapter Three Katlyn vs. Yugi |
|||||||||||||||
| Well play by the battle city rules, then? Yugi wondered, slipping his deck into his battle city dueling system, proudly displayed on his wrist. Katlyn had been beside herself with happiness when she found out they here using the dueling disks created by Kaiba, for Battle City.
She inserted her deck into the card recognition slot, then held up the system on her arm, which was borrowed from Joey. Yeah! You wanna go first? You go ahead! Yugi yielded. Then its time to duel! Ive always wanted to say that! Katlyn squealed, drawing five cards. Im right here if you need me, Yugi. Thanks, Yami. Yugi sighed, drawing five cards of his own. Violet eyes skimmed over the five card hand. Not bad. Celtic Guardian, Fairy Guardian, Waboku, Book of Secret Arts, and Offerings to the Doomed. Katlyn also surveyed her hand. Green eyes found Just Desserts, Castle Walls, Dark Elf, Celtic Guardian, and Reverse Trap. She drew for her turn, adding a Yami card to her hand. She pulled a monster and two other cards from her hand. She placed the monster card, face down, in a horizontal square on the card scanner. I place one monster in defense mode and, She then slid the two other card she had pulled from her hand, into the magic and trap card readers. I place two cards face down. Thats it for me! Yugis eyes narrowed as he tried his best to mimic Yamis infamous game face. He drew a card, Mystical Moon, and set it between the rest of his cards. He pulled two cards from his hand as well, sliding them into the magic and trap card slots. I place two cards face down on the field. I also summon the Celtic Guardian (1400, 1200), in attack mode! Complying to his command and the action of placing the the card vertically, and face up on the scanner, the sword-bearing elf materialized in front of his two face down cards. Now, Celtic Guardian! Attack her defensive monster with Steel Sword! The elf obeyed and attacked, slicing his sword down at the defensive monster. Katlyn gave a laugh and pointed at him. Ha! Youve activated my trap card, Castle Walls! When my monster is attacked, this card increases my monsters defense points by 500 points! The defensive Guardian revealed itself as a second Celtic Guardian, receiving a 500 point defense boost, leaving it with 1700 defense points. Yugi gasped as his life point count dropped to 3700. Not a bad move. Yugi complimented. Well, Ive seen all of your duels, so, I know how to counter your opening move. But your strategy from there is so unpredictable the I cant figure you out. But, that certainly doesnt mean I cant beat you, mind you. She laughed. Well see. Just because Im a friend, doesnt mean Ill go easy on you! Yugi laughed with her. I know. She smiled, but her eyes remained serious. Your move, Katlyn. Yugi cried. Katlyn nodded and drew Curse of Dragon. This could come in handy. She slipped it between her fingers and pulled out another monster card. Now, I play Dark Elf (2000, 800) in attack mode! The graceful, black haired elf appeared next to her defensive Celtic Guardian. Now! I give up 1000 of my life points to allow my dark elf to attack! Go now! Yugis Celtic Guardian shattered as the Dark Elfs attack hit. His life point count dropped once again, leaving him with 3100. Katlyns life point count also dropped, but hers stopped on 3000. Yugi raised and eyebrow. That cost you a lot more than it cost me. Maybe that part did, but who says my turn is over? Yugis eyes widened as she switched her Celtic Guardian to attack mode. Now, Celtic Guardian! Attack his life points directly! The Celtic Guardians blade came down on his shoulder, its holographic weapon slicing though his body. Katlyn swore she saw him change slightly for a bit, but then he returned to being normal Yugi, standing firmly, though his life points dropped to 1700. Youre good, Katlyn. My move now! Man! The duel just started, and Im already down to 1700 life points! Yami, are you alright? Ill be fine. Yamis voice sounded strained. You didnt need to take the Celtic Guardians attack, you know. Its fine. Get back to your duel. Yugi pulled a card from the top of his deck. Alright! The Dark Magician! Hell come in handy! He he set the new card in with his hand and pulled another monster out, placing it face down on the scanner. He then slid another card into the magic and trap card slots. I place on monster face down and one card face down. I end my turn there. Katlyn smiled. She pulled a card from her deck, Soul Release, and stuck it in her hand. Hmmm I could call out Curse of Dragon, but then I wouldnt be able to end this duel. Alright. This duel is over, Yugi! She paused, giving a girlish grin. Ive always wanted to say that, too. Yugi sighed. Katlyn resumed her duel face, and completed her attack. Celtic Guardian! Attac his face down montster! The elf obeyed and shot foreward, shattering the defensive Fairy Guardian (1000, 1000). Yugi sighed, and seemed to brace himself for what he knew was coming. Now I give up 1000 of my life points to allow my Dark Elf to attack, and finish this duel! Attack his life points directly, my elf! The elfs hands took on a black glow as it powered up for the fatal attack. Yugi gave a smirk. Sorry, Katlyn! But this duel is far from over! You fell right into my trap! I activate Waboku! This trap card reduces my opponents attack points to zero for this turn, so you cant touch me! The three robed creatured appeared, taking the attack, and vanishing with the puff of smoke it caused. Yugi relaxed a bit as her life points dropped to 2000. My turn now. Alright. I need something to bring me back into the game. Come on, Heart of the Cards. Dont fail me now. Yugi closed his eyes and faithfully drew his card. He flipped it over so only he could see. Mystical Elf? Well, it wont bring me back yet, but it certainly will help. I place one monster face down on the field. He pressed a button next to one of his magic cards. Now, I activate the magic card, Offerings to the Doomed! This card, the the cost of my next draw phase, allows me to automatically destroy one of your monsters! And I choose, Yugi pointed at her elf. your Dark Elf! Katlyns eyes widened as her elf was wrapped in bandages, then dragged down below the floor. She narrowed her eyes and placed her index and middle fingers on her deck. My move! she cried, also trying to mimick Yugis game face. She drew the Possessed Dark Soul (1200, 800), and set it face up on the dueldisk. I play the Possessed Dark Soul in Attack mode! I then sacrifice both my Possessed Dark Soul and my Celtic Guardian to Summon, Katlyn took the two cards off the disk and replaced them with a new monster. Curse of Dragon (2000, 1500)! But, since it was a special summon, I cant attack you. So, that ends my turn. Yugi nodded and reached for his deck. He stopped as a thought crossed his mind. Oh no! I have to skip my draw phase for using Offerings to the Doomed! I pass this turn seeing that I cant draw. He stated, his stern mask not faltering. Fine, then, I draw. Katlyn did so and raised an eyebrow at her new card. Bad Reaction to Simochi? She sighed slightly. Whatever. She placed the card in her hand and pointed at Yugis face down monster. Curse of Dragon! Attack Yugis face down monster, now! Yugi smiled. I dont think so! My defensive monster was the Mystical Elf. Her defense points equal Curse of Dragons and so your attack is negated, and my monster is unharmed. The Mystical Elf (800, 2000) appeared, kneeling, above her card. She gave a graceful smile as the attack hit her, but it was instantly dispersed, leaving her still gently smiling. My move. I need a monster card! He yanked the card from his deck and slowly turned it to face him. Neo the Magic Swordsman (1700, 1100)! Awesome! He slapped the monster, face up, onto the duel disk. I summon Neo the Magic Swordsman in attack mode. Now, I sacrifice my Elf and my Swordsman to summon the mighty Dark Magician (2500, 2100)! The purple clad monster appeared on the field, poised and ready for battle. Your move. He stated confidently. Fine. Katlyns smile grew wide as she glanced at the card she had just drawn. First, Ill play the field card, Yami, on the field. It powers up all Spellcaster and Fiend-type monters by 200 points while decreasing the points of all Fairy-type monsters by 200. Why did she do that? That helps my Dark Magicain because hes a spellcaster, but it does nothing for her Curse of Dragon. Next, Ill sacrifice my Curse of Dragon to bring out my own Drak Magician! Katlyns Dark Magician replaced the Dragon on the playing field. I see. She wanted to protect her life points so she sent out her own Dark Magician to equal mine. Sorry, but that wont work. Yugi smiled at the card he had had down since the beginning of the game. Its my turn now. Uh-uh-uh. Im not done. She smirked, wagging her finger at him. She looked at the face down card she had also had down since the beginning of the game. I activate this! Just Desserts! Yugis eyes widened as a ghostly hand grew from the cards picture, drawing close, then silently gripping his head. A shock of electricity shot through his body and his life points dropped to 1200. Yugi shook his head and grabbed the card on top of his deck. My turn? Im done. Go ahead. Katlyn answered offhandedly, discarding her used trap card. He pulled the card out. Petite Dragon (600, 700)? That wont do much of anything in the way of fighting her. Oh well. Ill save it for later. You sent out the Dark Magician so that we would be evenly matched, correct? Katlyn gave no answer, but plastered a stern expression to her face. Well, Dark Magician, attack her Dark Magician with Dark Magic attack! But your Dark Magician has the same number of attack points as mine. Katlyn smiled. Thats what you think! I activate Book of Secret Arts, increasing my Dark Mgicians attack and defense points by 300, giving it 3000 attack points!! Dark Magician! Attack! Yugis magician twirled its staff a few times before sending a juiced up attack at Katlyns creature. Katlyn guarded her face with her arm as her Dark Magician shattered to bits. She glanced at her duel disk to watch her life points drop to 1700. Your move, Katlyn! Heh Looks like Im in trouble. She closed her eyes and smirked. But that doesnt mean I cant win! She pulled her card from the top of her deck, peeked at it, then slapped it on the scanner. I place one monster face down, in defense mode! An upside down card materialized in front of her and she smiled again. And Ill place this card face down. Another card appeared behind her first one. Your move. Fine. Yugi drew The Sword of Dark Destruction and stuffed it into his hand. Dark Magician! Attack her face down monster, now! Katlyns Misairuzame (1400, 1600) vanished, leaving her with no monster cards. She sighed. Your turn, Katlyn. Katlyn pulled her card and smiled broadly. Prepare yourself, Yugi! I play this magic card! She slipped a magic card into the slot. Dark hole! This card destroys every monster on the field! And your Dark Magician is no exception! Yugi scowled as a black hole opened up in the center of the field, drawing everything into itself. He braced himself against the winds, keeping his footing. His monster was not as lucky. His Dark Magician soon disappeared into the darkness of the magic card. He stood up straight. My turn? Go ahead. Yugi nodded and drew. Dark Magician Girl (2000, 1700)! Great! Too bad I dont have anything on the field to sacrifice for it. But I place one monster face down in defense mode and end my turn. Go. Hes still got monster cards. He had the good instinct to avoid putting all his monsters on at one time. Hes good. But I will win! I know it! Yamis senses flicked his mind, sending him a signal. Huh? What is it, Yami? Katlyn. Theres something weird about it. I sensed something before, but didnt say anything. But now, its very noticable. Theres something ancient and veery evil. Yet, its familiar. Dont be crazy, Yami. Shes just a normal duelist! I still have this feeling. Pushing Yamis suspicions away, Yugi faced his opponent as she drew. A smile, not the sweet one she had worn before, but a more sinister one crept onto her lips. I play this! Monster Reborn! I call upon my Dark Magician once again! Her revived monster materialized onto the field and glowered at the smaller opponent. (Yugi: Kitty~chan! If you dont cut that small thing out right now, Im going to hurt you!) But, since it is also a special summon, I cant attack you. So, make your move. Yugi nodded and distractedly drew. He glanced at his card before slamming it onto his disk. I need to get something strong onto the field to get rid of her Dark Magician. And Ive got just the thing to do it, too. I play my own Monster Reborn to bring back my Dark Magician as well! I also play this card face down. Thats all I will do. Katlyn gave a smirk that sent chills of uncomfort down Yugis spine. The gleam in her eyes and even the evil melded in the curve of her lips gave her a truly evil expression. Maybe Yami was right. There does seem to be something odd about her. Told you so! Yami cried, mockingly. Yugi rolled his eyes as Katlyn drew, and immediately deposited the card in her hand. Our Dark Magicians are evenly matched. Theyd destroy each other if I attacked, so Ill pass. Yugi gave a curt nod and drew the Feral Imp (1300, 1400). He had this duel in the bag. Youre wrong as before, Katlyn. Our Dark Magicians are not evenly matched. Thanks to my face down card, Sword of Dark Destruction! It decreases my magicians defense by 200, but it raises its attack by 400! And thanks to your Yami card, it gains an additional 200 point boost, giving my monster a grand total of 3100 attack points! But, before I attack, Ill sacrifice my Feral Imp and my Petite Dragon to summon, Yugi discarded his defensive monster and a monster from his hand and placed another card on the scanner. the Dark Magician Girl in attack mode! She gains an extra 300 attack points for every Dark Magician ever played including yours! Plus, she is also a spellcaster, which gives her 200 points from your Yami card. So, my Dark Magician Girl now has an attack point total of 2800. Now! Dark Magician! Attack her Dark Magician with Dark Magic attack! Katlyn braced herself, then groaned a bit as the attack hit. She looked up, her life point count dropping to 1300. But, since Dark Magician Girl was a special summon, I cant use her just yet. Your turn! Katlyn looked in rueful humor at the two powered up magicians. I guess thats why hes called the King of Games. She was about to place her hand over her deck when a boice in her head screamed at her. Katlyn! You cant lose this duel! Especially not to him! Draw your card and attack! Katlyn stood in indecision for a moment before drawing a card. It was nothing more than Aqua Madoor (1200, 2000). This wont win the duel. It wont even get me through the next turn. Id lose anyway. Katlyn placed the card back on top of her deck and set her hand peacefully on the top in submission. Yugi had won. That was a great duel, Katlyn! Yugi cried, shaking her hand. You couldve easily made it in Duelist Kingdom. Katlyn blushed at his compliment. Thanks. Having her idol compliment her was the high point of her life so far. She laughed to herself a bit. Now I can see why youre named the King of Games. Now it was Yugis turn to slightly blush. Katlyn glanced at her watch, and her cat eyes widened. AGH! I gotta get home! Ill see you later, Yugi! She slipped her arm out of the duel disk and handed the contraption back to its owner. Thanks Joey! Bye! Bye! Yugi waved. Yami, invisible to everyone but Yugi, appeared beside his lighter half. Yugi turned to face him. Well? Tea gave him an odd look. Well what? Yugi looked over at her as if just noticing her. Huh? Didnt you just say something? Joey wondered, joining in. I wasnt talking to you guys. Yugi giggled lightly. I was talking to Yami. You can be visible, now, Yami. Yami continued on, slowly becoming visible to the others, as if the previous few things said had not been said at all. I dunno, Yugi. Theres something evil and ancient about her. I dont like it. Yami was now fully visible. He seemed to be sitting on the air itself, one leg extended, as if hanging off the edge of a chair, the other bent. His arms were folded solidly across his chest, and the sternness of his expression startled the others. I think youre just paranoid, Yami. Yugi smiled along with the others who seemed to get the gist of what the conversation was about. Just give her a chance. Yami nodded, giving his word to allow her to make an impression on him, but a part of his mind still screamed; DANGER!!!!! |

| Kitty~chan: Ooooooooh! Is Yami insane, or is there actually something wrong with Katlyn. Is she really a reincarnation of Yami's old friend, Kelah? Find all the answers out... some other time! Yami: Some other time? Kitty~chan: Yeah. It's not going to be explained in the next chapter. Sorry everyone! Oh, and about Yami... let's go for the former! Yami: I heard that! Kitty~chan: Oops!
