| Relena stopped typing on her computer, and slumped back into her chair. She was working on her daily paperwork. Little had been said about the night befores attack. The Gundam Pilots didnt seem too worried. Which worried her. They were always thinking about her safety, and if this wasnt a threat to her safety, then she didnt know what was. Sally and Une had been worried, but Heero assured them that he would protect her. Heero looked up from where he was working on his laptop. He was trying to find out what could cause him to have the type of symptoms that he was having. His injured right hand was now wrapped in a white bandage to protect the bad cut he had gotten the night before from infection. "You okay?" he asked, typing some info into his device. "Yeah. Just tired. Need a break. Any luck with you?" she asked getting up and walking over to look over his shoulder. "Not really. All the sicknesses that the computer came up with that have my symptoms are accompanied with high fevers. I dont have one. Plus they all have way more symptoms than just headaches, nausea, and blurred vision." He answered, not taking his eyes off of the computer screen. Relena smiled. Heero had really changed over the years. He had been working really hard to break down the walls that he had built around his social life. He had opened up, but only to her. She really was the only person that he seemed to trust with a few of his feelings. He never told her anything even remotely deep in his feelings, but he told her more than anyone else. "Do you think its a drug? Maybe someone drugged you. Who have you been around?" "All last week was my last bodyguard job, and none of them got close enough to me for them to have done anything. Trowas the only one who has been in my apartment at all. That was two weeks ago. He came over and we discussed some recent events during a meal. I was around him the whole time, and he didnt do anything that could be to drug me. Besides, I cant see a motive. But come to think of it, the first time I had the headaches and nausea was after Trowa left that night." Heero folded his arms across his chest and stared at the floor, as he always did when he was thinking. "Maybe he did something to your food." Relena guessed, but she was only being half-serious. Heero seemed to take it seriously. "Maybe he did. I dont see a motive, but it looks suspicious." "You arent suggesting" Relena trailed off, not wanting to believe that one of her loyal workers was plotting against some he knew she cared deeply for. Everyone except for Heero seemed to know about her feelings for him. "I dont understand whats going on either, but I need to find out what kind of drug can do this to me so I know what to look for in the food and drink content." Heeros fingers flew over the keyboard as he searched different drugs and poisons. Finally, he pointed at a page that described a type of poison. "This is it. Its a type of Nurotoxin." Relena read over the properties of the poison. Small amounts of it can cause extreme nausea, migraines, and swirled and fuzzy vision. So if someone injected it into Heeros food and drink, it would keep him like this. Then, the person could possibly come again and put more in until it killed him. "But why would Trowa want to hurt you?" she wondered, very confused. "I dont know. But I need to run some tests on the food and water in my apartment in order to prove my suspicions." Heero stood, but then sat down as soon as he realized that he couldnt leave his charge behind. Relena recognized that he didnt want to leave her. "Id like to go, if youd take me. That way you might solve whats going on. And you wont exactly be deserting your responsibility as my bodyguard." Heero smiled gratefully at her. His smile turned a bit amused and he stood again. "Ummm Vice Foreign Minister Darlin, have you ever ridden on a motorcycle before?" Relena raised an eyebrow. "No. Duo has one. Ive seen him ride it before, but Ive never actually ridden it before. Why do you ask?" "Does Duo wear a helmet?" Heero wondered, rousing Relenas curiosity even further. Relena nodded. "Heero, exactly where are you going with this?" Relena walked toward the main courtyard, where Heero would be waiting for her, holding Duos white motorcycle helmet in her hands. She now wore long baggy red pants that sort of looked like a skirt and a white sweatshirt over a white polo shirt. She turned her head as Duo Maxwell called her name. He was running up to her, waving a hand in the air. "Yes Duo?" Duo was yet another former Gundam Pilot. He had piloted the Gundam Deathscythe Hell. It used a long thermal type sword to destroy enemies. He was a fierce fighter, and his own tile was the Shinigami, or God of Death. Another title, was the Great Destroyer. Duo didnt mind the war, but he didnt necessarily love it either. He had thigh length brown hair, always held back in a braid and glowing cobalt blue eyes. Duo was sort of the comedic relief of the group. He loved to laugh and enjoy himself. He was the most easy going and his eyes always sparkled with life. The brown haired mans pale skin was flushed a bit with the running he had been doing, but he wasnt winded. He reached her and began explaining that Wufei had sent him. Wufei was the last of the five Gundam Pilots. He had dark brown eyes and jet black hair that was always slicked back and at the top of the back of his neck, was a small ponytail. He piloted the Gundam Nataku. It used a double-sided thermal weapon to attack, as well as extendible arms that blew fire. Wufei wasnt the type that loved war either, but he was always trying to get stronger. He despised the weakness in him and tried to get rid of it as often as he could. "He said that he just got a call from your brother. Hes heading for a meeting in Egypt, but his flight got delayed, and he needs a place to stay until Saturday. I think he was in his own way requesting to spend a few days with his little sister." Duos voice sounded tired, like he was in a trance or something. Relena didnt give it any notice, though. "Oh well. Tell him sure! Hes always welcome here." Relena flinched a bit as a thought popped into her head. Milliardo didnt quite care for Heero. Well, that was an understatement. The two hated each other. But how could she refuse her older brother? "But uh dont tell Milliardo that Heeros here. He might not want to come, and I dont want that to happen. I can just have Heero hang in the shadows until he leaves." Duo nodded and began to slowly walk away. Relena stopped him with a question. He turned briefly to listen. "Has it occurred to you that Trowas been acting strange lately?" she asked, hoping to get a head start on this little mystery of theirs. Duo sort of narrowed his eyes at her. A look that Relena had never seen before. Even when staring down an enemy, she had never seen that look. The sparkle of life in his eyes seemed absent. His eyes no longer glowed and they seemed dead in a sense. "No." he stated, rather than answered. He didnt seem surprised at her question or anything. He simply said no and walked away. Well that was weird. Im sure Heero would want to know that. She walked over and into the main courtyard where Heero was leaning on his motorcycle. He now wore his same green tank top under his dark jean jacket, but instead of jeans, he wore long baggy black pants. He righted himself as she came into view. Even in her red pants and polo shirt, which wasnt too dignified for a Vice Foreign Minister to wear, Heero found her incredibly beautiful. In whatever she did, she looked gorgeous. A golden haired, blue eyed angel. Heero suddenly shook his head, clearing the ridiculous thoughts from his head. He was her bodyguard, not her date. He approached her and explained that he only had his motorcycle, but it had a passenger seat, so she could ride too. "Really? This ought to be fun." She smiled brightly. Heero loved her smile. He again shook his head free of the thoughts. "If youd rather, maybe you can take a limo and Ill ride behind." Heero offered, not wanting her to feel uncomfortable in any way. "No way! If I took the limo, it would make me stand out too much just in front of an apartment building! Besides, Duo always says he has fun riding his motorcycle, but he doesnt have a passenger seat, so I cant ride it! It sounds like fun!" she smiled and asked him what he wanted her to do. Heero returned the smile, and told her to put on his black leather jacket. He had a jacket on, and she might get cold because of all the wind. Besides, it was a safety precaution. Then, he told her to put on the white helmet and pull the plastic shield down to protect her eyes from the wind. She did these things and looked up at Heero. The jacket fit her but, it was a bit big, and the helmet fit her just right. He grabbed his black helmet and put it under his arm. Then began to speak. "Relena, just some things while we are riding. You dont have to hold onto me real tight because theres a back rest on the seat, but be aware that we are going to be going pretty fast. Also, dont worry about turns. We may lean quite a bit, but we arent going to fall." Relena nodded as Heero put on his helmet and got on his motorcycle. He started the engine and backed it out of the parking spot. Relena approached it and tried to get on, without much luck. It was too tall. Heero got off of the bike, put down the kickstand and wrapped his strong hands around her waist to lift her up. Relena kind of jumped at his touch, but then relaxed as he easily lifted her up and set her down on the back seat. He then held the bike steady as he himself mounted. Relena looked at the back of his head. It was hard to believe that someone so strong could have a touch that gentle. He looked like he was the ultimate killing machine, and the main part of him was, but in the core of Heero Yuy was a man that just wanted to be human and have fun. Get a job, settle down and not have to worry about who he had to kill next. She wished he could have a life like that. But she knew that the only thing she could do for him now was to let him try and relax as much as he could, even though his job right now was somewhat stressful. Heero turned the bike around and sped up a bit, heading to go around the track that encircled the courtyard a few times. Letting Relena get a feel for what it was like to ride this kind of vehicle. He was only going about ten miles an hour, but Relena could feel a ton of wind rushing against her. Heero partially turned his head toward her to speak. "You okay?" "Yeah!" she yelled back. The two had to yell to communicate because of the sound of the rushing wind. "Ready to go faster?" "Yeah! Sure!" Heero twisted the handle bar a tiny bit more, and the bike lurched foreward, gaining speed at an incredible rate. Over the course of about ten minutes, Heero went faster and faster, as Relena adjusted to the feel. However, they had only gotten to about fifty miles an hour when they realized that they needed to get going. Heero turned the bike and they headed out of the Sanc Kingdom. They got out onto the main road and soon hit the freeway. Heero twisted the handle bar so they hit around sixty miles an hour. Relena suddenly grabbed him around the chest as the bike sped up. Heero looked down at her hands and took his left hand off of the handle for a second to pat her hand a bit reassuringly. He then quickly replaced it. It took about an hour before they reached the road that would take them to Heeros apartment. They reached the building about two minutes later. It wasnt the nicest place in the world, but it wasnt a run down building at all. It was actually quite nice. They walked up to the door to Heeros apartment and went in. Relena took in the look. It was nice and clean, but come to think of it, Heero didnt have too many possessions to make the place dirty at all. She took a seat on the couch as he left to perform the tests. She surveyed the room. Nothing too fancy. A T.V. in the corner, two sofas along the walls, and then the kitchen behind the last wall. The entire area smelled like him. Yummy. She finally lay down on the couch when Heero told her it would be a few minutes. She dozed off for a few minutes before Heero returned and shook her awake. She sat up and looked at him as he sat down in an armchair. "So?" she asked, referring to the food and water test results. "We were right. There is quite a bit of poison in everything. Everything, that is except for the water from the faucet. Which is not surprising. But Nurotoxin is not the only thing in there. There is also an unidentifiable substance in there as well." He answered drowsily. "So do you still think its Trowa?" she wondered. "Maybe. He is the only one who couldve put it in there besides me. And tell me would that make sense?" Relena smiled. She stood as he did. "Well, wed better get back to the mansion. Youve had a bit too long of a break." He smiled back. Heero pulled into the courtyard of the Sanc Kingdom mansion. He turned off the engine, then turned partially and lifted Relena off. He pulled out the kickstand, before getting off himself. He removed his helmet, then took his jacket from Relena. She removed her helmet and Heero took it to return it to Duo. "Ill take this to him. You go on upstairs. Ill meet you up there in a bit." He took of in the direction of where Duo would be. Relena smiled and returned to her room. When she got there, she found someone already there. A sleek, tall man stood over by the window facing the courtyard. He had pale skin, and platinum blonde hair. He turned to reveal two pure aquamarine eyes. Relena darted over to him and wrapped him in a strong embrace, which he quickly returned. "Milliardo!! Im so glad to see you! I thought you were coming later tonight! I didnt realized you were coming so early!" "Its good to see you as well, baby sister. Anyway, who was that guy you were with? A new boyfriend?" he smiled mischievously. "No butuh." Relena didnt quite know what to say as they pulled apart from their embrace. "And why on earth were you riding a motorcycle?" Milliardo didnt like the sound of his little sister riding a motorcycle with a new boyfriend, or riding at all. "Well, he wanted to take me, and no hes not a boyfriend. Hes uhh" "Who is he that you dont want to tell me, Relena?" he asked, apparently getting worried. He knew that usually if she didnt tell him something, the thing was threatening her safety. "Its nothing you need to worry about! Settle down- " "Milliardo." Said a cold voice from the doorway, cutting Relena off. Relena cringed. She was not only worried about Heero and Milliardo meeting, but she also hadnt heard that voice come from Heero in a while. Course, the two hadnt met in a while. Heero saved that ice cold, soldier voice especially for him. Milliardo glared daggers at the man in the doorway. He wondered about the bandage that Heero wore on his right hand, but he said nothing about it. "What is he doing here, Relena?" he asked harshly, turning to look at her. "Hey!" Heero cried. Relena looked at him in shock, as did her brother. "Listen. Im not too pleased to see you either, Hot Shot. But we both know Relena and she is the one youve come to visit. Now dont get mad at her and dont focus all of your attention on keeping me in check." Heero said this with little emotion, but you could tell he was angry. "Dont you dare tell me what to do!" Milliardo pulled Relena behind himself and confronted Heero by taking an intimidating step foreward. Heero didnt budge. Nor did he look intimidated. He just stared straight into the eyes of the taller man. "It appears that you could use the advice. Id think that as the Vice Foreign Minister of earth, your sisters pretty stressed out, and you starting a fight with me is not going to do anything but make it worse." Milliardo glared at him, but said nothing. It would feel so good to just punch him straight in the face, but he restrained and turned back to Relena. "So exactly what is he doing here, Sis?" he asked as Heero moved to sit in the chair by the window. Relena was still quite shocked that Heero had stood up for her like that, so she remained silent as he took his seat. When Milliardo asked the question again, she snapped out of it, and turned to him, a bit startled. "Well hes my uh hes" Relena couldnt bring herself to tell her brother that he was her bodyguard. That would just make him worry more. She didnt like it when her brother worried about her. She looked to Heero for advice. He was looking back at her. He simply shrugged his shoulders, and looked out the window once more. Relena understood. He didnt care if she told him he was her bodyguard or not. She looked back at her brother who was eyeing her suspiciously. "Hes my bodyguard. Trowa, Duo, Wufei, and Quatre were worried about my safety and hired Heero to be my bodyguard." Milliardo was surprised that she actually told him that kind of information. "Relena, you know I couldve gotten you trained professionals to be your bodyguard. Not him!" he cried, not hurt, but a bit offended. "Well, for one thing, the other four guys picked out the bodyguard, and second, Heero is a trained professional. You should know that better than anyone else." She said calmly. Milliardo muttered something under his breath, then told her hed see her at dinner. He had filing to work on, and one of his employees was calling him from downstairs about a phone call. He approached Heero and got in his face. "If one thing, one thing happens to her, Yuy, Im blaming you. You understand?" he said menacingly. "Dont get your pretty hair messed up over this. You honestly think Id let something happen to her, Milliardo?" he asked. Milliardos eyes widened when Heero said this. "Dont you sass me, you punk. Just remember that Im holding you accountable!" With that, Milliardo landed a punch to Heeros cheek. It wasnt too hard, but there had been some power behind it. Heeros head flew to the side, but he didnt wince or cringe in the least. "Let that be a reminder." Milliardo left, slamming the door behind himself. Heeros head was still to the side as it had been when the man had punched him. He finally looked at the door and sighed heavily. Relena looked at Heero and then approached him. "What was that all about?" That was when she noticed a bruise on Heeros cheek. "Heero? What happened? Did he hit you?" "Dont worry about it. Its nothing, and I can understand that he doesnt like me. I may not like it, but if that had been me four years ago, I wouldve dug a knife into his stomach instead of punching him." Heero answered looking out the window once more. "Well, you and him were big rivals back then. Theres no need for you to regret what you wouldve done, just focus on how you did react." "Well, I cant say that I- " Heero cut himself off and sucked in air through his teeth as another headache hit. This time though, it was very sharp and came on extremely fast. He fell foreward, too fast for Relena to catch him. He hit the floor hard as Relena ran up to him and tried to revive him as he was only half-conscious. "Heero? Are you alright?" she asked. The mans expression relaxed a bit. He opened his eyes about halfway to look at her. "Well, its passed. I just need to rest a bit." He said. He said it with almost no energy and Relena could tell he was exhausted. She smiled kindly. "Well, if you want to, you can lay on my bed. Im just going to be doing paperwork, so you can sleep." Heero looked kind of confused. "Thats alright. You dont have to worry about me. I can just sleep in the chair like I always do." He tried to get up, with little result. "Its fine. Youll be more comfortable in my bed. Come on, Tough Guy." She helped him up, then onto the bed where he instantly fell into a deep sleep. Relena thought. Its odd that someone that is that strong, can feel so weak. Well, thats because he puts on this tough guy exterior, but on the inside, hes perfectly human. She sat down on the bed next to him, and put a hand to his bruised cheek. "Oh Milliardo. You really need to stop worrying about me so much." She said to the air. She stood and returned to some paperwork she had brought up to her room. When Heero awoke, it was already very dark out. He looked around and found that no one else was in the room. He sat up and shakily stood, heading for the door to find out where everybody was. He turned his head as a noise caught his attention. He looked at the window, where the noise had come from. Hoping it wasnt another attacker, he shrugged it off and turned back to the door. As he took another step, he rammed right into someone. He looked down, and there was Relena, sprawled out on the floor. He offered her his hand and helped her to her feet. "Sorry. Are you okay?" he asked. "Fine. And you? How are you feeling?" she asked, heading into her room and to her dresser to get ready for bed. "I feel a lot better now that I slept a lot. I think the main reason that one hit like it did was that Milliardo's punch probably triggered it." He answered, walking over to his chair by the window and sitting down. "We just got done with dinner. If you want some, You can go on down and get some food." she offered, and she pulled her pajamas out of the dresser. "Thats okay Im not hungry." He answered distractedly, staring at the lake in the courtyard. Relena looked at him affectionately as she entered the bathroom to change. When Relena returned, she found him in the exact position he had been when she left. Still staring out the window at the lake. He seemed to always be staring at that lake. She didnt know why, but she figured it probably reminded him of something from his past. His past was something that he was yet unsure of. She walked up and simply stood behind the chair he was sitting in. She knew he could tell that she was there, but she didn't mind. She leaned over so that her head was level with his. "Whatcha starin at?" she wondered quietly. "The lake." He answered emotionlessly. The moonlight bounced off the surface of the lake and played in Heeros machine like eyes. "Youve been staring at it a lot. Whats special about it?" she wondered, straightening. "I dont know. I just think its pretty." Just like you. He wanted to say. However, to him, the lake had a lot to learn in the looks department when it came to Relena. It didnt seem to matter what she wore, or how bad she looked, her inner beauty would shine through and make her appearance glow with light. Heero shook his head slightly again. What did it matter how he felt? He was a weapon, the ultimate weapon. The perfect soldier. Who was he to love the angel of the battlefield, when he was the one holding a gun to her neck? Even if she did feel the same way, he didnt feel that it would ever work. They just came from worlds that were too different. He was pulled out of his reverie by her voice again. "Well, if you want to, we can go swimming tomorrow. Itll be fun." "Thats okay. Swimmings not my thing. Besides, I didnt bring trunks." He answered. "Well, its supposed to be very hot tomorrow. Well see how you feel tomorrow after being in that heat." She answered. She finally headed for bed. She crawled under the blankets and instantly began to drift to sleep. Heero sat quietly, hoping that nothing would happen tonight. He was still puzzling over the last intruder. He seemed so familiar, but Heero couldnt figure out why. Heero looked out the window, but he didnt see the lake. All he saw was another shadow person. Heero leapt to his feet as if he had sat on a tack. He pulled a knife from his belt, and prepared himself for an attack. "Back for more, freak?" he asked it, menacingly. That was when Heero noticed something. This wasnt the same person as last night. The shadow before had green eyes. This one had cold light blue. And he could see both of the persons eyes. This one was shorter than the other one. So whoever was after Relena was sending in multiple people to attack. The shadow took off into the room and disappeared into the shadows, blending in perfectly. Heeros eyes darted over to where the shadow had disappeared. He launched himself in that direction and came into hard contact with the shadow. He thrust the knife foreward, hoping to just cut the persons arm or something, but instead, his arm was stopped by a strong hand. The shadow had caught the weapon. He then twisted Heeros wrist enough to make him drop the knife. The shadow picked it up, and hurled it across the room where it stuck in the wall. The nurotoxin circulating through Heeros body made him weaker than ususal, making it easier for the shadow to match his strength. The shadow kicked Heero off, sending Heero soaring through the air until he hit the far wall with a loud thud. Relena sat up in bed and looked around for another intruder, gathering up the clues that were around the room. Heeros eyes scanned the room as his vision began to fuzz and blur. Dizziness set in as he looked for the shadow. Eventually, he spotted the fuzzy intruder. He was standing above Relenas bed. He waited there for a moment, breath baited, waiting for the shadow to strike, afraid that if he moved, the Shadow would pull a weapon and end Relenas life. Heero finally got an idea. Slow enough that the shadow bearly noticed his movement, he inched his way over to where his knife had imbeded itself in the wall. He pulled it out, and in an instant had thrown it at the intruder. The knife hit its target in the shoulder, causing the person to cry out in pain. This time, Heero really recognized the voice. That sounds like Quatre. What in the world is going on?!?! Why in the world would someone want me to think that Quatre is the one attacking Relena?!? He thought as the shadow escaped. He sat down and sighed as Relena got out of bed and walked over to him, asking if he was alright. "Im fine. How about you?" he wondered of her. "Just a bit shaken. Who is sending these people, Heero?" she asked, kneeling down next to him. "I dont have a clue, but I promise you that we will find out." He said, determination gleaming in his eyes. |
