| Heero Yuy leafed through a small stack of mail as he entered his apartment. All of the letters except one were junk mail. The one that wasnt was his paycheck. Heero Yuy, former pilot of the Gundam Wing Zero, now did his best to live a normal life. He didnt have any normal skills, but he tried, and it worked. He worked as a bodyguard. Considering the only thing he really knew how to do was fight, he did it very well. He was now almost nineteen years old. And it had been almost four years since he had piloted his beloved Zero. It had been just as long as the last time he had seen Relena. Relena Darlin was the vice foreign minister of earth. She was tall and had waist length golden hair and beautiful baby blue eyes. She seemed to have a major crush on him. Heero, never having experienced real love before in his life, was still confused about his feelings for her. Heero had grown into a rather handsome man. His dark hair still stayed its same style, and his prussian blue eyes still held an emotionless, machine-like glint in them. He was now very built due to the training he went through to keep in shape for his job. He now had a very muscular chest as well as powerful arms. He thought about turning on the news, but dismissed it as he thought about the only thing that seemed to be on at the time. That weirdo who is trying to salvage the Gundams and perhaps use them. He was that one odd guy. He had long black hair and steely gray eyes. I remember thinking how weird his eyes looked. I think his name was Shakaju Masaki. Moron. Why cant the world just forget us? Heero plopped lazily into a comfy armchair and held his head. He hadnt been feeling too good lately. He constantly had headaches, no, migraines, and he got nauseated very easily. It had started the night Trowa had come over for dinner two weeks ago. That night he had thrown up twice and fallen asleep on the floor because his vision was so fuzzy that he couldnt find the bed. Ever since then, he had thrown up regularly, and never felt all the way to himself. However, he was Heero Yuy. The sickness didnt deter him from doing his job at the best of his ability. He was about to drift off to sleep when the ringing of the phone snapped him out of it. He pulled the phone from its place and put it to his ear. "Moshi moshi. Yuy." He said in his usual emotionless voice. "Heero." Came a familiar voice from the other line. "Trowa. What do you need?" he asked, immediately recognizing the voice. Trowa Barton was another Gundam pilot. He piloted the Gundam Heavyarms. It used multiple machine guns all over its body to get rid of enemies. He had short brown hair, which was spiked to cover his left dark green eye. He used to work at a circus with his "sister" Catherine, so he was very agile, and had some pretty fancy moves when it came to combat. Even in his gundam he was the most agile and graceful. Trowa wasnt really his name, and he really didnt have a name. Trowa is just a name he took from a guy that died while he was working on adjustments to Heavyarms. "Listen, you know how the four of us now work at the Sanc Kingdom with Queen Relena, right?" Trowas voice sounded almost as emotionless as Heeros (which is quite a feat). No emotion at all. Which was odd, even for Trowa. Relena had offered the five Gundam pilots jobs at the Sanc Kingdom with her. The other four readily accepted. Heero, not liking the lifestyle of people like Relena, refused and decided to live alone, just like he felt. Queen Relena? Hes never called her that before. The only people who still call her that are the civilians. Oh well. "Yes. What about it?" "Well, she just got back from giving a speech at colony L3X18999 yesterday. During the speech, there was an attempt made to assassinate her." Trowas voice still sounded a bit strange. "Man. What happened?" Heero asked. You could tell he was surprised, but somehow, his voice still retained the emotionless sound to it. "Well, someone fired a gun at her, and it missed by about two feet. There were no more shots fired, and the person responsible wasnt caught. We heard that you work as a bodyguard and a pretty darn good one too. Is that correct?" "Yes. So you are suggesting that I be Relenas bodyguard?" Heero asked, almost knowing the answer. "Yes. Would you?" "Alright. How long would it be?" "As long as it takes to catch the perp." "Fine. Trowa, are you okay? You sound weird." "Yes Im fine. Just a bit tired. Meet me tomorrow at the front gate to the Sanc Kingdom at ten am. Bye." The dial tone sounded in Heeros ear as Trowa hung up. Heero sighed and hung it up as well. The next morning found Heero heading toward the Kingdom gates on his black Honda motorcycle. He wore a black leather jacket and a sleek black helmet to match. Under which he wore long light colored jeans and a green tank top. About an hour after he left his apartment, he arrived at the Kingdom gates. He was permitted, and drove into the main court. Little did he know that as Trowa approached him, two blue eyes watched him curiously. Relena drew aside the curtains and watched the new arrival. It certainly didnt look like a normal ESUN (Earth Sphere Unified Nation) leader, or any other leader for that matter. I mean, what important leader drove a Honda motorcycle? She watched as Trowa greeted them in a casual manner. Well, that checks "important person" off the list. Relenas eyes widened as the man removed his jet-black helmet and revealed a mess of chocolate brown hair. He set his helmet on the seat of the motorcycle, and then removed his jacket showing his green tank top. He gripped the handlebars and pulled the bike over to where he parked it and then turned once again to Trowa. Relenas thoughts reeled. "Heero Yuy?" she whispered. Relena looked up from her paperwork as a knock sounded on her door an hour after she had seen Heero arrive. She told whoever it was to come in, and the door opened a crack as Quatre Winner poked his blonde head in the door. Quatre was also a former Gundam pilot. He had piloted the Gundam Sandrock which wielded two curved swords. Quatre wasnt the type who loved war, but he knew he had a responsibility and did it to the best of his ability. He used to live in the desert, and still took time off to return to the sandy lands and visit the Maguanoc Corp., an army of 40 soldiers who had helped him immensely during the war. He was a bit shorter than the others, but was still pretty tall. He was an arabian man with soft blue eyes and towhead blonde hair. "Yes Quatre?" she asked, smiling at the blonde boy. "You know that we have been discussing getting you a bodyguard?" he asked tiredly. "Yes." "Well, we found a good one. May I introduce, Mr. Heero Yuy." Quatre opened the door fully to reveal a bored looking Heero. Heero wore a dark jean jacket over his green tank top and long light jeans. Around his waist were two belts that held a few weapons for his job. His emotionless prussian blue eyes bored into Relena, making her feel lightheaded. "Nice to see you again, Heero! Its been almost four years." She said excitedly. She didnt like the concept of having a bodyguard, but if Heero was around, she thought she could stand it. Heero made his patented "hn" noise and sat in a chair by the balcony window in the corner. He folded his arms over his chest and stared out the window.Quatre closed the door as he left. Relena eyed him. He was certainly different. Subtly, but yet he had changed. He looked as if he had spent the last few months in the gym. He was a lot bigger than he was when she last saw him. But he still held that thin look. The one that concealed his inner strength. Relena was surprised when he spoke to her. His voice was now deeper and richer than before. She liked it. "Did you notice anything weird about that?" he wondered, not looking at her. "About what?" Relena wondered, giving him her undivided attention. "About Quatre." "Whats weird about him?" she asked, still gazing at him. "I dont know. Its just that he didnt seem like himself. Hes usually happy and light-hearted, but today he seemed to have no personality whatsoever. Like hes in a trance or some- hey. Are you alright?" Heero had finally looked at her and seen the way she was looking at him. "Huh? Yeah! Im fine!" she said quickly, turning red. "Trowa was like that too." He got back on the subject and looked out the window once more. "Huh? Trowa? What do you mean?" "Well, when I was on the phone with him, talking about being your bodyguard, he seemed to have no enthusiasm in his voice. No emotion at all. He sounded as if he was high on something." "Weird. Well, Wufei, Trowa, Quatre, and Duo have all been acting a bit odd as of late. But its probably just fatigue. Theyve also been working really hard lately. Theyll be okay." Heero nodded, but couldnt do anything else before another headache wracked his head. He groaned and a hand flew to his throbbing temple. "Heero?" he heard Relena say. Heero couldnt answer. The pain was blinding. It was as if someone was constantly hitting him on the head with a hammer. He started to sway, as his vision became fuzzy. Relena was at his side in an instant. She put her hand on his muscled arm and asked if he could hear her. Heero could, but didnt answer as a ringing echoed in his ears, rattling his eardrums painfully. He groaned once more as his world began spinning. Relena moved in front of him and grabbed his wrists as she knelt down. "Heero! Heero! Please! Tell me whats wrong! Heero!" The only reaction the Vice Foreign Minister got was the man falling foreward. Relena caught him and lowered him to the ground. She placed his head in her lap and stroked his face gently. Heeros whole body began to shake slightly and a thin layer of sweat broke out on his forehead. Relena debated whether to leave him and go tell the others that something was wrong or not. She quickly dismissed it as three reasons not to (they didnt have to be good ones) popped into her head. 1. It would completely embarrass Heero. Hes a fighter and he hates having anyone see him weak. Besides that, Im sure even though it probably hurts pretty bad, it would only be a problem for him if I told the others. 2. The other four might take him away and get me a new bodyguard because they think hes sick. I dont want that. 3. I love having him this close to me. Hes close enough for me to kiss him. Oh man, it would be so easy. So easy. Just lean down and kiss him. Hes just lying there, wide open! Besides, I think I might not want to jump to conclusions. Maybe theres a reason he did this. I dont know that hes like dying or something. Relena stared at the mans face. His eyes were gently closed, apparently the headache had passed. He looked like he was sleeping. As she looked at him, Relena thought that, right now, he looked like the person she saw inside. The person that the perfect soldier inside him kept suppressed. The kind hearted young boy Doctor J had spoken of so long ago. He looked like the young man that was always struggling to get out. It was odd that she saw all this just by looking at him when he was sleeping. She loved the way he looked right now. It was hard to believe that he was a professional assassin. He didnt look like it right now. But Relena knew that once he opened those icy, cold, machine like eyes of his, his assassin job became all too believable. Just the thought of brushing her lips against his sent shivers up her spine. She wanted to do it so badly, but what would Heero say? The temptation to kiss him was just too great for Relena to resist. Slowly, ever so slowly, she lowered her head toward his, cradling his face in her hands. Her face was about an inch away from his when he stirred a bit. She jerked herself upright as he slowly opened his gorgeous blue eyes. "Are you alright?" she asked, blushing brightly. "Yeah. Its been doing this a lot lately. Dont worry about it." He answered, his words a bit slurred. But I need to find out whats wrong with me. And soon. Relenas spirits brightened when she heard what he said. Maybe shed be holding him more often. She smiled. Relena crawled under the blankets of her large bed and began to fall asleep. "Goodnight, Heero." She said drowsily before drifting off to sleep. "Goodnight, Relena." Today hadnt been too eventful since Relena had spent most of the time doing paperwork. The headache seemed to be the only thing that occurred today. He thought about when he had the headache. When he had regained consciousness, he remembered something odd. He had woken up about two seconds before he opened his eyes. While he had his eyes closed, he couldve sworn that he felt hot breath on his face. And when he had opened his eyes, Relena was drawing her face away from his. What went on while I was asleep? He would research the headaches tomorrow. He stared at Relwna as she slept. He finally got up and walked slowly over to her bedside. He reached out and put his hand to her soft cheek. He stroked it gently, smiling a bit. Not much, but it was more of a smile than most people got out of Heero Yuy. Finally, he jerked his hand away, and headed back to the chair. He stopped at the wall, and lightly hit his forehead against it. He then sat down and sighed heavily. Relenas off limits to you, you moron. Back off. He finally, settled down in the chair and was content (sort of) to watching her sleep. He turned his attention back to the lake. He sat there in complete darkness, as the time ticked by. It wasnt too long, before Heeros attention was taken by a noise coming from the balcony. He looked around the room for a brief second, before looking back at the balcony. A shadow now blocked his view of the lake. No, not a shadow, a person! He was clad in black. He wore a long black cape, under which was a black tank top, and long black baggy pants. A mask of the same color covered his mouth nose and hair, but Heero could only see one green eye staring out at him. Heero jumped from his chair and stood in front of the open balcony window. His hand was on his gun, ready to draw it in case he needed it. The feeling of the cold metal in his palm was a feeling Heero hoped he would never feel again. That feeling of completion. The awful feeling that he was not complete without a gun pressed into his hand. "Who are you?" he demanded harshly. "That is none of your concern, Heero Yuy. Now prepare yourself." The voice was faintly familiar, but Heero couldnt place it. The thing that caught Heeros attention was that the voice was not coming from the persons face! It was coming from elsewhere. The person drew a dagger, and lunged at Heero through the open window. Heero jumped out of the way, and, clicking the safety off, pulled his gun from his belt. He took aim and fired the pistol at the shadow. The shadow jumped out of the way, and did a few complicated flips in the air, before landing on Relenas dresser top, poised, and ready to attack again. The gunshot had awoken Relena, and was somewhat frightened by the scene before her. She looked between the shadow and Heero, wondering what was going on. Heero raised his gun and readied to fire again. However, before he could pull the trigger, the shadow had thrown his dagger straight at Heero, sending the weapon flying toward him with amazing speed. Heero managed to remove his body from the knifes path, but his hand remained in the way. The knife sliced a deep cut in the top of Heros hand, causing him to drop his gun, and scream in pain. Relena cried out when she saw what happened. "Heero!! Heero! Are you alright?" The shadow turned to Relena as soon as she shouted. Heero saw the shadows change in attention, and yelled to it. "Hey! Batman! Over here!" he cried, holding his bleeding right hand. Surprisingly, the shadow turned back to Heero and rushed at him. The man easily dodged and thrust his left fist foreward in the process. The punch landed in the shadows stomach. The shadow groaned painfully. The voice that was used in the groan was a different than the one used to speak earlier. The voice was very familiar, but Heero couldnt put it to a face. The shadow dropped to its knees, before quickly retreating through the open window. As soon as Heero was sure the intruder was gone, he slumped to the ground, leaning against the wall, holding his profusely bleeding hand. "Heero! Are you alright?" Relena raced to his side and took his injured hand, not minding the blood that spilled onto her hand and her pajamas. Heero said nothing, as he didnt seem to notice Relena at all. He was thinking about that shadow guy. He seemed so familiar. Heero knew that he had seen that flip and technique somewhere. He needed to find out who this guy was and why he was after Relena. |
