Chapter Two Grave
||||||||||||||||||
It was about a thirty minute drive to the old cemetery. Once they got in, a man with a long grey beard and no hair greeted them. "Welcome to the Ancient Temple Cemetery. How may I help you?""he asked in poor Japanese, and little enthusiasm. "Hi, my name is Mia Koji. My friends and I were called about the grave of the child sorceress." Mia explained. "Ah! So youre the ones. Well, follow this trail," he said pointing to a gravel path that wound around the graveyard. "The grave is at the end of it. Its at the top of the hill, and is a fairly large gravestone. Good luck." The six smiled, and started down the trail. "Man, how long is this trail?" Kento complained as they trudged forward. "I dont know but it has been over two miles." Rowen stated. "Well, how much farther do you think we have to go?" Sage wondered, yawning a bit. "No further! There, up ahead! I see it!" Mia said, walking faster. The others followed suit and picked up the pace and followed her up to the unusually large toumbstone. "Well, I dont see anything unusual." Cye said, examining it. The others got down, looking for something out of the ordinary. Ryo stayed on his feet, his blue eyes scanning the area for anything that could pose a threat. But what caught his eye wasnt living. A glitter on the ground caused him to turn his eyes downward. "Hey, whats this?" Ryo knelt down and began to gently brush away the earth from the article. "Wow!" Kento exclaimed as Ryo uncovered a rather large amulet of some kind. It was made up mainly of a saphire in the shape of a dewdrop, about the size of Ryos index finger. The gem was set in a golden triangle, connected to a gold chain to go around the owners neck. "Hey! That looks just like the Teardrop Amulet!" Mia exclaimed. "The what?" Cye wondered. "The Teardrop Amulet. Its origins are unknown, but it was said to have the power of change. In other words, the owner could change something or someone into whatever they wanted." Mia answered. "And Im guessing that the owner was this Shori Kensuto?" Sage suggested, reading the name on the epitaph.

"Yes, thats what got her to the fame that she had. The amulet gave her the power to make everyone do what she wanted them to do, under threat of course. Also, she was very demanding. That is why the people resisted her. Her favorite type of playing was hanging someone by the wrists and whipping them to death." Mia said, obviously disgusted. "Violent child." Muttered Kento. "No kidding. She became famous because, unfortunately, she was the only one who could control its power." "Why? If she was so evil, why did she get to use it?" Sage asked a bit apalled. "Well, I dont think she was always like that. I think she started out good, but then she got cocky after she found the amulet." "Geez! And she was supposed to have been a kid, right?" Cye guessed, looking back at the amulet that Ryo was holding. "Mm-hm. She was said to have found the amulet when she was around seven or eight, though, no one knows how." "Then how did she die?" Rowen asked, turning his midnight blue eyes on her. "Well, once when she was about ten, she told someone to do something, and they stood up to her. So did a bunch of the other villagers. She got mad and ran off. No one ever saw her again." "Didnt her parents look for her?" Ryo asked from his spot in front of the grave stone. "She had been an orphan since she was five." Mia finished. Ryo looked back at the amulet in his hands. He could feel power generating from it. The energy was cold and unwelcoming, For some odd reason, Ryo could sense something more in the gem: like a bunch of lost souls. He shook it off as being nuts. But he couldnt shake off the feeling. What else he felt wasnt good. "Cmon. Lets get back to the main building and show them what they found." Sage suggested. The others nodded in agreement. They began walking back down the trail, when Mia noticed an absence among them. She stopped and began to look around. "Mia? Whats wrong?" Kento asked. Then he noticed it too. "Hey, wheres Ryo?" The five looked back to see Ryo still kneeling on the ground with the amulet clutched in his hands. "Whats wrong with Ryo?" Cye wondered, walking back toward the grave. "Hey, Ryo, man. Cmon we gotta go. You have the amulet, lets gooooo!" Kento urged. Ryo didnt budge. "Ryo? Ryo? Ryyyyoooo!" Mia cried touching his shoulder. "Mia." Ryo managed to get out. "Well, dont just sit there. Come on!" she pulled at his shirt. "Ic-c-cantmove." He slowly muttered. "What? Why not?" "Id-d-dontknow. Ic-c-cantseee-either. Help." Mia knelt down and looked at his face. Sure enough, the pupils in his eyes were absent. Only a tiger-blue void stared back at her. "Guys, something is really wrong here." Mia sqeaked, scanning Ryos face again.

"Hey! You said that the amulet had power, right?" Rowen asked. "Yeah." "Well, maybe its because of the amulet. Take it away, Mia." He suggested. Mia wrapped her fingers around the amulet and pulled, hard. She pulled and pulled, but the amulet simply wouldnt budge from Ryos strong hands. "Kento, you try." She suggested, standing up. Kento nodded, and started toward his leader. Before the warroir of strength could get there, a blue aura surrounded Wildfire. Ryos figure began to fade. It sook Sage a few minutes to figure out what was going on. "Mia! Grab him! Hes disappearing!" he yelled in panic. "What?" Mia questioned, but acted immediately. She jumped up, and attached herself to his chest, holding on tightly. No matter how hard she held on, it didnt help. Ryo disappeared. Leaving only the amulet he had been holding. "Ryo!" Mia yelled. "Ryo!" Cye darted up, and scooped up the amulet. He could feel Ryos energy in it. Suddenly, he felt his body stiffen, and his world went black. "Guys!" he muttered as loud as he could, which was only a quiet talk. "Cye!OK! This time Im going too!" Kento yelled. He darted up and touched the saphire. He felt his body freeze, and his vision blurred. Soon, both Ronins were gone. Rowen and sage stared at the necklace. Not sure what to do next. They looked at each other, and nodded slightly. Mia watched as the two remaining warriors approached the amulet, touched the gem, and slowly disappeared. She rolled her eyes and muttered, "Those boys are going to be the end of me. But, I guess If you cant beat em, join em." She touched the saphire, and closed her eyes.
