In the sixteen years that Lady was with the Durdens, Kent went from age 16 to 32. Between those years he had graduated from college and developed into a busy wildlife photographer. Kent and Ed contributed footage to a number of Walt Disney films including The Legend of the Boy and the Eagle. He also contributed footage to Ring of Bright Water and both he and Ed photographed wildlife sequences for several episodes of the "Lassie" television show.
Kent was on the lecture staff of the
National Audubon Society and traveled all over the U.S and Canada showing his films.

In 1974 Kent's second book,
Flight to Freedom was published. Flight to Freedom was a fictional season by season account of what Lady's life may well have been like after leaving the Durdens
On location with the ring-tailed cat.
In 1975 Simon and Schuster published A Fine and Peaceful Kingdom.

A Fine and Peaceful Kingdom
is a fun romp through all the amusing animal stories Kent has collected over the years. From his boyhood through to his professional career, this book captures all the funny, poignant and kooky things that happened to Kent, his friends and family while an odd assortment of animals came to stay with the Durdens. Although this book and Flight to Freedom are out of print, it is easy to find in used book stores and on Ebay.

UPDATE: I am very sad to report that Kent Durden passed away in March of 2007. I am his daughter, Kristine, and I am trying to continue to get out the remarkable story of my Grandfather and Lady. I also want to continue to keep showing people the work of my father, his books, his photograpahs and his films. I am currently working on getting the film on dvd.
