EMPLOYMENT EXPERIENCE

 

Present Employment: Mitchell’s Gourmet Foods. Saskatoon, SK

Position: Relief Engineer.

Duties: Daily operation of a 4810 ton ammonia refrigeration plant, and a 5000 kW steam plant. Routine monitoring of refrigeration and steam equipment. Troubleshooting, servicing and replacement of valves, solenoids, evaporators, compressors, condensers and all related equipment. Monitor temperature regulation to comply with in-house HACCP program. Regular use of SCBA and Confined Space Entry procedures to assure personal and coworker safety.

Duration of Service: August 2000 to present.

 

Previous Employment: Self Employed. Saskatoon, SK

Position: Sole proprietor, ValTech Enterprises.

Duties: Computer Consultant. Consulted with clients to assist them in computer purchasing, upgrading, configuration and crash recovery. Acted as agent for clients in dealings with Internet Service Providers, regulatory bodies and software vendors. Web page design and implementation. As well, I offered services in annual boiler teardowns for inspection, and routine monitoring of mechanical equipment.

Duration of Service: July 1999 to Aug 2000.

 

Previous Employer: Saskatchewan Opportunities Corporation. Saskatoon, SK

Position: Shift Engineer.

Duties: Operation of the central Energy Centre for the Innovation Place research park in Saskatoon. Equipment included two 400HP high-pressure firetube boilers, two 1000 ton freon chillers, various variable frequency drive pumps, shell and tube heat exchangers, and air compressors. Processes controlled by a Prairie Controls/Siebe Electronics DDC control system, and Johnson Controls Metasys systems in outlying buildings. Was present for and instrumental in the startup and commissioning of this plant.

Duration of Service: August 1997 to July 1999.

Reason for Leaving: Released due to corporate realignment.

 

Previous Employer: Clearwater Forest Products. Meadow Lake, SK

Position: Chief Engineer.

Duties: Day to day operation and maintenance of one large dry kiln. Supervision of three shift engineers. Operation and maintenance of one 600HP high-pressure firetube boiler and auxiliary equipment. Supervised operation of one waste wood burner. Used necessary mechanical skills, including welding, cutting, pipefitting, plumbing, and general repair. Use of computer skills to operate dry kiln systems and data acquisition systems, as well as regular computer systems' maintenance and repair.

Duration of Service: August 1995 to August 1997.

Reason for Leaving: Accepted a position in Saskatoon.

 

Previous Employer: Canadian Aromatic Oils. Outlook, SK

Position: Shift Engineer.

Duties: Startup and operation of a mint oil processing plant. Process utilized a 600HP high-pressure firetube boiler. Initial programming and adjustment of digital process controllers. Water treatment. Product recovery from waste material.

Duration of Service: August 1994 and August 1995.

Reason for Leaving: Seasonal position during harvest only.

 

Previous Employer: Saskatoon Fresh Pack Potatoes. Saskatoon, SK

Position: Head Steam Engineer (Contract Position).

Duties: Day to day operation of one 250HP high-pressure watertube boiler.

Operation and maintenance of food processing equipment. Operation of ammonia

refrigeration plant. Performed millwright services as required to repair plant equipment.

Duration of Service: September 1994 to July 1995.

Reason for Leaving: Contract expired.

 

Previous Employer: Sheraton Cavalier Hotel. Saskatoon, SK

Position: Shift Engineer.

Duties: Operation of two 75HP and one 50 HP low pressure firetube boilers. Operation of one 850 ton centrifugal chiller unit. Operation of multizone heat pump system for guest room heating and cooling. Maintenance of entire range of hotel equipment including kitchen, swimming pool, guest rooms, sprinkler/fire alarm systems, air handling/HVAC systems, In-house cable television system, elevators, etc. Performed general building maintenance as required.

Duration of Service: July 1992 to February 1994.

Reason for Leaving: Returned to school to take Third Class Power Engineering course.

 

JOB SKILLS

 

Knowledgeable computer user, capable of hardware installation, replacement, troubleshooting and configuration.

 

Hands on experience in installation, configuration and administration of all Microsoft OSes. Experience with Linux and Unix variants.

   

Capable of maintenance welding, use of cutting torch, brazing, soldering.

 

Can do most pipefitting, steamfitting and plumbing work.

 

Familiar with the operation of pneumatic and hydraulic systems.

 

Can operate some types of heavy equipment; forklifts, tractors, skid-steer loaders, etc.

 

Have sound knowledge of water treatment practices and chemistry.
