Welcome to Guam!

"Where America's Day Begins"

Hafa Adai! Andersen AFB, Guam turned out to be a very nice overseas tour. I was assigned to the 43rd Munitions Maintenance Squadron. This would be my third base working on the mighty and ageless B-52G. Talk about a beautiful place! The weather was always fabulous. Only thing to remember about the weather...never under any circumstances leave your car windows rolled down when parking. There may not be a cloud in the sky but you can bet that it will rain the only time you forget. Fortunately, we never got hit with any really strong typhoons there.

We were only there for a little over a year. Hardly long enough to get to know the place and make friends but we did our best. We were supposed to be there for a minimum of two years but Congress decided we didn't need 12 additional B-52s in our inventory. Guess how many we had on our flightline? So, our stay got cut short.

Linda worked at a brand new hotel on Tumon Bay called the Grand Hotel. Tumon Bay is the Japanese tourists version of Waikiki. The hotel isn't there anymore. Got destroyed in an earthquake. Tumon Bay is a beautiful place to spend a Saturday or Sunday afternoon picnicing or snorkling in the crystal clear water.

Agana, Guam

Yap Island

Guam has groups of wild life. It's particularly famous for it's brown tree snake. Supposedly, there are thousands of them on the island. Never saw a live snake. Saw a dead one once hanging from a power transformer after shorting out the entire housing area. Another one put out power to the ENTIRE island. Now, DUH!, wouldn't it be wiser to bury the power lines rather than put them on tall poles that snakes like to climb?

Other wildlife seen...booney pigs, deer, wild chickens, booney dogs and monitor lizards.
