| Once you are satisfied with your bends, then hold the repair piece in place and make any neccessary trimming that needs to be done. I had to trim anywhere from 3/8" to 1/2" off some areas. Better to be over than short! Next, cut out all the old rust. Make sure you have enough room on your repair piece to go into new metal. You do not want to leave any rust in this area. Otherwise all your efforts are in vain. |

| I cut my area out to the edges of my repair piece. Then I cleaned all the old paint well away from where I would be welding. Next I treated the exposed metal to a rust inhibitor. (I use a brand called "Ospho." It'll eat any rust left and can be painted directly over with out any further prep work.) Then spray the area and repair piece with a primer. No sense in leaving any exposed metal. |
