The "Bug"
After we sold the Fiat, Kerri decided she wanted to get a Bug. The older, the better. I really wanted on old "Square-back", but she didn't like them. Anyway, we search San Antonio and Austin, and it's really amazing how much people want for one of these things even when it's a piece of junk! We looked at one that had an engine fire, pulled extremely hard to the left while braking, and the clutch barely worked. The guy wanted $2500 for it. We found this one (see picture) in Austin. It's a '68 with a white interior.
It had been restored about 4 years before we bought it. But the only thing really wrong was someone had put a clear coat over the paint and it was peeling off. We paid $1800. On the drive home from Austin, I found out that the steering gear box needed to be tightened. It's bad when a semi-truck passes you and you have to turn the wheel half a turn just to stay in your lane! It was an easy fix. Well, Kerri found out that Bugs aren't as cool as she thought they were, so we put it up for sale. I put new plug wires and new bumpers, and then we sold it for $2800. Not a bad deal. Personally, it was too slow for my tastes.
