While looking for "Battousai the manslayer", a vicious murderer, kaoru bumps into a wandering swordman and mistakes him for the killer. The wanderer claims that he cannot kill with his sword, which has a blade on the wrong edge. She offers the wanderer sanctuaryat her school. Kenshin proves valuable when the murderer, a venge-ful ex-student comes to kill Kaoru....
Kaoru's school has been vindicated but her students aren't coming back. As Kaoru drags Kenshin out ti eat and forget about her woes(^^), the two bump into Yahiko. He has been reduced pick pocketing to repay the medical bills his late mother owned a yakuza-syndicate-Kaoru decides tio help.
Police offers storm the Kamiya school looking for Kenshin. Kaoru and Yahiko, thinking that they are out to arrest him, trying to stall time. Menawhile, Kenshin is busy, helping the townsfolk who are being builled and murdered by the unethical police force.
The Kamiya "family" eating out again, encounter some rowdy drunken rebels. A lone man puts them in their place and introduces himself as Sanosuke, fighter for hire. Later, Gohei(battousai imposter) contracts Sanosuke to kill Kenshin. Hearing that Kenshin was the "Battousai", Sanosuke chanenges Kenshin to a fight he cannot refuse.
Sanosuke reminisce about why he needed to fight Kenshin, a former Imperialist, while Kenshin reveals the secret behind Sanosuke's grudge. What the world took for granted concering the group that Sanosuke believed was his second home was not exactly true-and the two men dueled once again to make a clear within thier hearts which belief is stronger.
The police return to the school but this time to ask a favor of Kenshin. A ruthless serial muderer has been slaying Imperialist political left and right and the police could not stop the muderer. Kenshin and Sano accept the offer to stop the muderer known as Kurogasa.
Kurogasa takes Kaoru hostage right in his hopes that it will turn him back into Battousai. Kurogasa hopes are somewhat grabted whne Kenshin arrives-and his voice is totally different from Kaoru has seen before!(oh no0!) Will Kenshin really lose what he had fought for, and go bck to being a ruthless murderer??
Sano drags Kenshin out to play with his olf friends, only to learn that one of them died from opium addiction. A women runs into their house seeking help from men who are chasing her. Sano and Kenshin manage to ward off the bodyguards and listin to her story. Protecting Mugumi invokes agression from the powerful Oniwaban Group.
