The Whole World
by Kenovay
"Remus." Remus shook off Sirius' hand on his shoulder.

"I'm fine, Padfoot. I'm ready." He was standing in front of the mirror, carefully knotting his tie. He turned to face Sirius when it was immaculate, his face calm. "So. Here we are."

"Yeah." Sirius cracked his knuckles nervously. "Last day. Onto the real world."

"It's not a death sentence, Black. Don't look so grim."

"It's the end of an - Remus, are we going to keep in touch?" The words were sudden and hurried.

Remus looked taken aback. "Of course. What kind of a question is that?"

Sirius' shoulders hunched. "I just don't want to lose contact." There was no way to express the bursting of their bubble, how the others were going to grow up and leave him behind. How they already were.

"Won't happen." Remus grinned, slinging an arm around Sirius' defensive shoulders. "As so many people have said before me, it's just the beginning, it's not the end. The whole world's at your feet and waiting."

"The whole world's fucking scary," Sirius muttered, but let himself be tugged affectionately towards the open door.
